How cool is this!? Check this out. I got a mail this morning from the WSP trooper that had my car all four years while in service. Attached was this photo:

What a find. He says he likely has a few more and possibly some shots of it in the snow (as it patrolled the mountain passes). Now THAT would be cool. So interesting seeing it in it's full markings. This totally made my week.

Very cool!! What kind of spotlight is that? I also love the mud flaps, I found holes for some on my UHP. Very nice congrats.

Bernie - It's a double headed unti from Unity. Has a flashing blue light on one side and a clear light on the other - does double duty. :)

Very cool! It's great to find in-service pics but even better when it's your own car!

I spent an hour on the phone yesterday talking to the Trooper who drove my car in-service. He had some great stories!

Trooper no longer lives there. But he did invite me out to have lunch in the next few weeks. Maybe I can snag a new pic of my car with him behind the wheel again. :)

Thanks Mike. Will send any others that come along. Really want to see if there are any shots of it in the snow while on patrol. That would rock. :)

So, I was sipping my coffee and checking e-mail this morning. Just about shot coffee out my mouth when I saw a mail from Trooper Herron with some "just found" in-service pics of my/his 87 WSP SSP. He's sending me the full-color images to scan and send back, but did manage to send these:

Car was buried in the snow from the HUGE storm we had back in 89 - and the answer I have heard is yes, they dug them out, put chains on and patroled in the Mustangs just like any other car:
http://images114.fotki.com/v1606/photos/4/732444/8682334/HerronWSPSSP3-vi.jpg

Here's the front half of the car scraped off to give an idea of depth of the snowfall:
http://images49.fotki.com/v1501/photos/4/732444/8682334/HerronWSPSSP2-vi.jpg

And finally - a shot of his son in front of the car circa 1990. The car in the back is also an 87 and belonged to Trooper George Martin (477WSP). Trooper Martin worked out of the Chehalis detachment.

Mike - once I get the pics scanned in color and not so grainy, feel free to add to the WSP section on the site. I'll post up once I get them in the mail.

Is that a TURBO sticker on the quarter glass??

Jerry - YES!! Trooper Herron put on an ATS turbo sticker (popular at the time) just to mess with people when he pulled them over or engaged in conversation. Everyone would see the car and ask "That thing has a TURBO in it?" - Trooper Herron said it was quite a hoot - and never did correct them. :)

The pics are from the 710WSP car (16-7-014). :)

Trooper said that they used to chain up the front and back tires in snow and hope for the best. Said the cars never really bit into the snow and you mostly coasted along the top of the mess. Wowzah!

I have to admit I did...but I was one of the last hold outs. I think I was in 7th or 8th grade then.

I bought an 88' NHP car. I couldn't come up with $4500 for the 85'. If your interested, I'd be more than willing to help a fellow SSP'er out.

It's to bad the guy wouldn't come to his senses. It really is a worthy car, just out of my league. My newest find is 3 Dodge Polaras, a 69, 71, and a 74. All NHP cars and all have been sitting untouched since the late 70's. I haven't bought them yet but maybe one day. I need a second job and a bigger garage.

Is the issue that the SSP owner is non-negotiable on price? Just curious. I know that to some $4500 would be steep for the condition, and to others might be well worth the price. Given the work needed, I could see where the price could go lower. Then again, given the "rare" factor of the car along with in-service pics and the awesome NHP paint scheme - could see where this is worth the price.

Did the trooper that wanted it snag it?

Last I checked it was still there but I'm gonna go check on it soon for one of the members here. If I had the $4500, it would be in my garage but I'm just a State Trooper dealing with paycuts and furloughs. It truly is a piece of history and around here, it is a legend. Its a little lame with the full wheel covers that were on it back in the day but hey, mustaches and flat tops were cool too. I had $2500 cash in hand (wish I could have come up with more) and a trailer attached to my truck, but he wouldn't budge on the price. I even showed it to him and held it in my hand as we talked. He said $4500 and wouldn't even negotiate. Maybe a larger sum could change his mind but who knows. I am a little fustrated with him since the car is a piece of history and he won't give it up. He doesn't even know it's significants being one of 3 NHP SSP's and the first year Nevada used Mustangs. He just likes it because its a "Hot Rod". I did talk him out of the Buddy Bumper in his yard with the mount for $100. That was a small win at least. Here is a link to all of my pics. The 85' is on page 24

Thanks for doing the legwork on behalf of another member here. I really hope that this piece of history can be rescued. Hope it finds a deserving home.
