Hey all you SSP owners out here in the west, the best emergency vehicle show in these parts is coming up on Saturday, October 4th:

http://www.riponmenloparkpolicecarshow.com/

You don't have to be fully restored to in-service condition to bring your car out to this show and have some fun. Unrestored, partially restored and daily or occasionally driven police package cars are welcome to participate in the Daily Driver class where they are very much looked at and appreciated by enthusiasts. Before finishing my car, I showed it three times at Ripon at had a ball at every show.

It was fun for me to share my progress on the SSP and now that it's finished, I still have folks coming up to me at Ripon and telling me they remember my car when I first showed it and how they really enjoyed the chance to see it both ways.

So grab your SSP and bring it out to Ripon...you won't regret it!

It's a little over a month until the show, time to make your plans. Last year Camaros swept the "Best Restored Special Service Pursuit Package Vehicle" class with participant voting.

Mustang owners- don't let this happen again

The show is the largest show by far on the west coast and has over 100 vehicles normally entered. It's well worth the trip and we'd like to see more Mustangs attend. (Washington SSP owners- it's not that far)

Hmmmm...I am not sure, but I think that may have been a hint for us Washington SSP owners to participate. :D

I actually have been talking to my buddy to head down and make an awesome road trip. However, he wants to tow his rig vs. driving. Where's the fun in that?

However, I hear the stories about Ryan Briceland's (sp?) Camaro are pretty funny. Did he really take his wheels off and wash them in his hotel bathtub prior to the show? Whoa! That's dedication. No wonder the Camaro's swept it!

I've never seen Ryan go quite that far but he is very particular about his car (and it shows). I've never seen him throw his jacket over a mud puddle so his car can cross (so far).
Ryan couldn't make it last year and I haven't heard he'll be there this year either so it's a wide open field. Every participant gets a ballot so you never know who will win.

Camaro, camaro, camaro, camaro, camaro! Wish I could be there but maybe this chant will help the B4C's. One of these days I will make it. Like after a paint job or more tuning for long distance runs. Good luck guys and look forward to seeing the pics again.

Well, another great Ripon show is in the books. Rained very hard on the way to the show and that necessitated an hour long cleanup upon arrival but we were bothered by only a very few sprinkles for the rest of the day (real police cars LOVE rain!). 100 total vehicles showed - here's the 2008 field for the Restored Special Service Pursuit Package Vehicle class:

And the winners by participant vote were:

1st - 1982 CHP Mustang hatchback (Kevin McLaughlin)
2nd - 1991 UHP Camaro B4C (Matt McLaughlin)
3rd - 2002 CHP Camaro B4C (Kristin Read)

Congrats to all the winners. A fine time was had by all!

Nice pictures. I think my favorite is the 1975 blue Fury with the single headlights.

Thanks to Mike and everyone else who came to Ripon this year. The Camaros outnumbered Mustangs 4 to 2. The date hasn't been set for next year's show but it may be moved up in the year somewhat so we aren't pushing the beginning of the rainy season.

A couple of minor corrections though, 1st was won by Matt's '92 UHP Camaro, 2nd was Kris Read's 02 (black and white)CHP Camaro and my 82 Mustang was lucky enough to take 3rd in participant voting.

Actually, I plead guilty by reason of being under the (slight) influence of pain medication that day. Had a mishap at home a few days before the show that almost caused me to miss out but luckily recovered enough to be able to be there physically (if not totally mentially).
