88 EVOC CHP Mustang - $20000 (danville / san ramon)

This is the only EVOC Mustang ever sold by the CHP. I have owned it for 13 years. 49,000 original miles. Full 6 point cage and adjustable front shocks by the CHP. All decals and lights are in place as original by the CHP. I am a 72 year old collector selling this from my collection in Blackhawk. Serious calls only. 925-964-9335. Signed by Pete Brock and Carrol Shelby. It is mint!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not putting this car down. It is a unique vehicle and I'm sure it's fun to drive (at speed!). I'm not sure if having it autographed by people not involved in its history adds any value though.

I never did get the guys who have Carrol Shelby or Jack Rousch or whoever sign their cars when the car has ZERO to do with them. Shelby is kind of a whore with his name anymore. That guy will put his name on any car (Dodge Omni SHELBY,Dodge Dakota SHELBY ect ect ect..)a$ long a$ the price i$ right. Kinda of cheesey. Nice car, probably wont get 20k but still a cool and historic car. Sadly this opinion comes from me, the guy with his first daughter named ....... "Shelby" ;)

The guy is an icon in the automotive industry. In addition he is a brilliant businessman that knows how to market himself and his products. To top it off he has been at it for over 60 years. I am hoping to get his signature on my GT 500 if I can. I don't care if it costs me to get it because anyone that knows anything about Carroll Shelby knows that 100% of $$$$ he brings in with his autograph (like dash plaques) goes to charity. Shelby automobiles have always been and will continue to be an excellent investment.

If I had a Roush, or Saleen car they could sign it, but the only person signing my Cobra will be CS himself.

I was surprised by Kathy Jackson's misinformed article about the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation. Ms. Jackson did not contact me personally to request an interview and I just learned that an executive at Shelby Licensing failed to pass her request for comment to me. I've always been proud to talk about the Foundation. A conversation with me would have resolved any concerns and allowed me to explain my long term goals.

Some who read this article might think that the Foundation is not running on all cylinders. Nothing could be further from the truth. We’ve throttled back a bit on our giving because we are committed to create a perpetual endowment. It’s routine for non-profit organizations to build an endowment that ensures the group can continue its mission in the future. At 84 years old, you can understand why I’m concerned with this issue. I want the Foundation to do great work years after I’m not around.

Though we’ve experienced a few growing pains, I’d like to point out a few important items:

• I hired Jenni Shreeves, a very capable Foundation director and very recently expanded the board to help us reach our endowment goals; they are helping me make donation decisions that won’t risk the Foundation’s future financial security.

• I’ve been searching for another person from outside the auto industry with expertise in this area to join the board of directors and provide additional expertise, as well as different perspective.

• Prior to working with Ford (http://www.thecarconnection.com/make/ford) Motor Company beginning in 2006, I personally raised almost all of the funds for the Foundation by donating my personal cars and signing autographs. Sooner or later, I will run out of cars and the ability to sign autographs. Working with Ford (http://www.allsmallcars.com/make/ford,new) has allowed us to take that next step and build a more diverse donor base for the Foundation.

• With the sudden inflow of significant money over the past 18 months, we tapped Wells Fargo to analyze our strategic plan and help us manage these funds. It is prudent stewardship to put on the brakes instead of throwing around money like a drunken lottery winner. We expect to announce their findings shortly.

• We’re not “skimping on the giving.” While the Foundation will certainly continue to donate money to deserving kids and groups, everyone on the board is first committed to building the endowment so we don’t run out of money once I can’t sign autographs to raise funds. We won’t toss out our long-term strategic plan for a short-term benefit because of misinterpreted information discussed during an interview with a Shelby executive.

What began as an effort to help kids has become much larger than I ever imagined thanks to many wonderful people, including partners such as Ford (http://www.allminivans.com/make/ford,new). While our fundraising was once confined to small donations, they have dramatically accelerated our efforts. We are much closer to making more substantial and more frequent donations for years to come.

The team is meeting our challenges head-on while building a world class organization. I invite Ms. Jackson to talk to me anytime. I am sure she, and Automotive News readers, will be impressed.

My hat goes off to the Saleens ( now defunct ), Steedas and Roushes that actually develop their own cars and parts for Ford, similar to what Carroll Shelby did in the 60's.

Carroll Shelby had major imput into the engineering and production of the 07 - 09 GT 500. (Common knowledge in Ford circles) Like 1968 thru 1970 the cars were built with his imput but not modified at his plant. Incredible that a guy that has donated over 30 high dollar collectible automobiles to charity is bashed and accused of "dodging taxes". please...... Given the lunatics that are in DC right now EVERYONE better create a "foundation". I don't know....maybe him being a legend is all a myth. Steve Saleen is done unless he can succeed with his new company which is still in question, Jack Roush builds a great car, but is higher priced than a GT 500 and doesn't hold value as well. I guess the Shelby's are not for everyone but I sure like mine. It's Ok that Carroll himselff didn't touch it. Having his name on it means its bad ass and will be worth than I paid for it in 20 years. Try that with a Saleen, Roush or Steeda. :2thumbs:

I totally agree with that. I would not let Roush, Shelby, Saleen or anyone else sign one of my ssp cars. For an ssp car I would like to have it signed by the trooper that drove it but thats about it for an ssp.

I would really like to have a Bullitt also but I don't see it happening any time soon. As for ssp values I can say that the values of the cars have risen steadily over the past 12 years I have been collecting them. Along the way I have bought numerous cars to save them, then sold them to other enthusiasts to help fund another car I want for the collection. In the end I believe the 4-eyed cars will be the best investment simply due to the numbers produced (versus the aero cars.)

1986 was the first and last injected 4-eyed (unless you count the 1985 CFI). So many people have bought the new GT500s as an investment I doubt they will be worth more than sticker in 20 years. The original Shelbys were driven and not many bought as investments and that is why the few good originals that are left are worth so much at auction today. I saw a new 09 KR500 for $75,000 at a dealer on eBay and a local Ford dealer had a new 08 GT500 that they could not get $44k for.

The 86 ssp car were the only injected 4 eyed cars.

IMO I predict the 07-09 GT 500 cars are going to go down in value for the first ten years like any other car. I also don't believe they will skyrocket to being worth 40 times original sticker price (not in my lifetime anyway). If anyone is paying attention to our wizards in washington and around the world it is clear that a 500 horsepower muscle car is on the short list of extinction unless it gets 30mpg and has a big bank of batterys in the trunk. As for current purchase price if you are a buyer now is an excellent time to take advantage of the market. Many gt 500's out there around 40k and I have seen a few for high 30's. As with any other economic downturn, individuals have to let their toys go to address other needs and while it is bad for some, it's a real good time to buy. Naturally the biggest issue with resale is originality, miles, and condition. When CS passes (not to wish it on him) and the cars spike in value, there will be alot of people saying I should of bought one 20 years ago when they were reasonably priced.

Lastly if anyone finds an 07 or 08 GT 500 hard top color vapor with black stripes let me know. (It has to be 100 percent original with no mods, all paperwork, window sticker, low miles, etc etc.) I am currently looking.

Good points Jim. The value will spike when he passes (and it won't be 20 years from now either). I remember having my oil changed last December at the local Ford dealer when they were loading up a 2009 KR500 for a customer in South Dakota. The customer paid the dealer $135k. As I mentioned earlier, you can not get one in the neighborhood of $75k. That's a $60k drop in 6 months! You are right about now being the time to buy. I'd love to get one, but I am now at my 4 collector car cap (wife imposed), so the only move I can make in the near future is getting the 2010 SHO when my daily driver F-150 lease is up in 3k miles. I could liquidate the 86 SSP, 86 GT convert, 67 t-bird and 67 Kaiser/Jeep M715 (which I doubt would get me close to the $40k total I'd need for a GT500, considering it's a buyers market in today's economy). I have a feeling the annual insurance bill would be more for the GT500 than all four of my vehicles combined too.

And FYI, Ford first introduced the Vapor color for Mustangs in 2008. That color replaced Tungsten Gray, which was available in 2006 and 2007.

The jury is still out on whether the red GT seats were installed by the CHP. It's possible, they did put a later model air intake on the '92 car.

I found this gentleman on Bay Area Craigslist and after talking with him, realized that he wanted it to go to a good home, but was only getting offers from drag racers wanting to remove the priceless parts and turn it into a race car. The coor molding strip should not be on there with the decals.
They weren't that way in service. Not sure if it was left on as an EVOC car, but I doubt it would have been.

I still think the car was repainted since the 89 and IIRC 92 had been to make them nicer. The instructors who drove the cars could do things to them, like the chp decal on the rear seat delete and blue roll cage on the 92(at least that is what I was told). The door moldings could have been added to make the car "nicer" in service.

As I recall, Rhino posted up after a lengthy conversation with the seller that the seller got permission to install the graphics after he bought the car. So he applied them over the moldings.

Like was mentioned would need to see pics from when the CHP owned it to know for sure, but it's also possible he added the door moldings prior to having the graphics installed. As Bill writes above, I also recall reading in Rhino's post about how the owner was provided graphics and had them installed after buying it.

Mike and Bill are correct. Seller stated that he received the car without decals on it. He called up Spike to ask why it had no decals, and was told to look in the trunk. Where there were 2 sets of vitachrome decals. So, yes, he added them after he got the car - or, so I was told.

Super high price considering you could have the USAF for $2K less. Still....cool car. Well, except for the red seats.

Also...I find it funny - this car has been up and down for sale sooo many times. So many price changes. Seller said he had a buyer lined up - then someone bought it on EBay supposedly, yadda yadda yadda. Can someone buy the dang thing just to put these threads out of their misery? :)
