I just purchased this 1988 SSP Notchback for a bargain price...I just need to fix the AOD transmission. I really don't think the tranny is broken since it was recenlty rebuilt about 8 months ago.. I think the shift linkage is broken. When I move the shifter to "reverse" nothing happens not even the rear back up lights turn on. Can someone help...

Is that an Alabama car? What do the Buck Tags say?

I was wondering same thing looking at the blue hood...whether it was an Alabama SSP.

Does all the forward gears still work?

No, The DSO tags say "00" which indicate "Special" and "83" which make this car a "government" SSP...

None of the gears work at all. Is still think the shift linkage is broken...Gotta get a second opinion.

It's one or the other, I've never seen 2 DSO designations. The DSO should be 6 digits if it's an SSP. 2 digits (the DSO) followed by the 4 digit order number.http://www.specialservicemustang.net/images/DSOscan1.jpg

One thing about those AOD's is if the TV cable isn't adjusted right. It will burn the trans up.

Or if it is not hooked up! That happend to me as my '90 was my first AOD Mustang and I did not know about the TV cable. Mine was completely disconnected. Had to limp it home one day.
