here is where I am hoping to go with this one. Not sure if this is my actual car but the patrol will probably be able to tell me as they usually have all the records for these cars. Mustang retriever has me pointed in the right direction to get that information.

yes it is an 88. built 2/11/88. In service with MSHP in April of 88.

with the 88 Missouri I brought these home:
9 gatorbacks. 5 are NOS, the other four are like new. 2 of them on NOS black wheels with the factory spare tire sticker on the front. Also got a mint set of quarter windows, a matched set of S-6 mustang spots, 4 SSP tire boards, and a real nice factory am/fm only radio. It was a great road trip and it was nice seeing Don again. I bought the Idaho car from him years ago and he is a good guy to deal with. He is moving out west in the near future and I wish him the best.
He still has the 1990 Frisco Texas car he needs to sell. If anyone is interested I took some pictures of the car while I was there. The car is a solid white car with blue original vinyl interior. It is a roller however he has the interior, plus a 5.0 AOD doner car that comes with it.

Well, Well, Then welcome to the family. I guess there are 3 regatta blue 88's built that month surviving. I just got mine a new paint job as the old paint was going on me. I got all new weather stripping too and its like a new car now.

Looks great Jim. Love the color, is that medium shadow blue? Looks a little dark to be regatta.
The car appears to be super original, what's the story behind it?

Paint code is 3R Medium Shadow Blue with gray interior. The car was used by the MOHP then sold to Jefferson County Sheriffs office. Don bought this car in 1996 with 136k miles. He put springs and struts on it and put about 20k on it over the past 13 years. The car has only had one repaint of the original color and has all the original body panels. Still has original ford exhaust (rotten) with all 8 bonding straps. The car is bone stock including the factory radio. It runs and drives really nice. Transmission was rebuilt by the patrol.
Couple of neat things about the car.. Power door locks with manual windows, cruise control, rear defrost, and 3.27 gears. I really like the medium blue with the black ten holes. Can't wait to get it restored. I am planning on doing a complete frame up rotisserie nut and bolt resto on this one.

What town was this car from? The guy I got my 2 FHP cars is a guy named Bill Fischer that has probably sold 30 SSP cars all from Florida. I assume he would know Don? as well?? I wish I still had my first '89 FHP car.

Maybe it's a bill for storage or back taxes owed on the vehicle? Likely not! Whatever you get will be cool if it has to do with the car. Maybe all the glovebox goodies. The vin card, warranty book and all that stuff that gets thrown out usually.
Pretty cool car!

The MSHP sent me a copy of a 93 Window Sticker that was for a different VIN #, but was same exterior & interior color so worked out good for me to have a reproduction made up. Also sent procurement records that contained the specifications for the block of VIN's (that included my 93) the MSHP sent the dealership the cars were purchased along with the associated receipt for purchase of my SSP and other block of 93's bought on the order. Will be interesting to see if you receive any additional documentation. Good luck!

Another excellent trip to the mailbox today. That makes two days in a row!
MSHP sent me the following:
1. Sales invoice for my specific car that includes my vin #
2. Purchase order contract release documents that contain all seventeen 1988 Mustang color breakdown.
3.Statewide contract that specifies build configuration and options.
4. Ford documents regarding a service program regarding the replacements of rear end ring and pinion gears in all 1988 MSHP mustangs.
5. A list of all 17 1988 vin #s.
It is raining outside but its a happy time in the kitchen today !!!!!

Not too much luck with the documents, the Missouri Patrol retains car documents for years and willingly shares them with collectors. If you're respectful of them they will go the extra mile for you!

more good news about this particular car !
I am currently attending a ten week class in Columbus Ohio for work. The instructor today was a retired MOHP Trooper. I got to talking with him during lunch and I casually asked if he knew anything about the SSP cars MOHP used and his eyes lit up. He said he was issued one of the first 88 cars that was put in service. His car was white but he says he can probably tell me the names of the troopers that drove the medium blue cars. He also said he has some inservice pictures from back in the day he is going to email me. He is good friends with a bunch of the guys that drove these cars.
