Does anyone know the Correct Oil Fliter For a 1988 SSP?.....I have a Ex-Washington State Patrol car. And nobody knows what the correct oil filter is for this year with an Oil Cooler.
I bought it and it had a Fram PH16 on it. I know this is the incorrect Filter.
I have heard anything from a Fram PH8, PH16, MotorCraft FL1, FL300, and K&N FH2004.....

Please any Help out there.

The Motorcraft FL 300 is the "Correct" filter. Other brands are available and any good auto parts store has a cross reference guide to show which ones fit with like size to the FL 300.

Fram would be the PH8. I don't know how it could have had a PH16 fit on top of the oil cooler. I had the mistake of trying to fit that one on my '93 SSP. I just forgot that it had the smaller one when I bought oil filters for the SSP and my '90 LX 'vert. I had just finished changing the oil in the 'vert and moved on the the SSP. Banging my head as to why this PH16 oil filter wouldn't fit! :No no: Then I came to my senses...

A PH8 is too long due to the Clearance between the Oil Cooler and Sway Bar, PH 16 gives the right clearance.
I at first tried the PH8 but it wouldn't fit, or even start to spin on. So, I assumed that's why they used the 16...I did too...Thanks for the info.

Use the Motorcraft filters, FL-300 if you are running the oil cooler. Fram filters are JUNK and can and will cost you a engine.

Did I say that backwards? The 16 is the short and the 8 long?
