Well, I found this on CL the other day and quickly snatched it up. Long story short, it was a DARE car belonging to the Brantley County (Ga) Sherrif's Office. It was sold in 2001 and I bought it from the second owner who bought it at auction. Unfortunately he gave it to his son in law a year ago who did not take very good care of it. It is totally stock down to the air silencer and is complete and unmolested. The undercarrage is pristine as well.
Plans are to repaint back to factory color white and leave it stock.
Anyway, here are a couple pics but I will post more this weekend when I have time to clean it up.
I got a kick out of the hillbilly jack stands

The deputy it was assigned to gave me a pic of it while in service.

Great experience....congrats and thanks for the pics. I was fortunate to meet the Trooper who was assigned to my 93 MSHP SSP. I'm going to coordinate another visit with him in April in order to reunite him for a visit with his old Mustang.

When I was a Deputy Sheriff about 10 years ago, we had a DARE Mustang but it had what looked like a Tony the Tiger on the hood. Looked ridiculous but I wish I had a pic of it.

The more I dig into this car i becomes clear I saved this car from certain death. I removed the interior due to the carpet being soaked (rain) and the floorboards look pretty good. Repaired a few surface rust spots and put some seam sealer in one of the corners by the pass door. Today I will start reinstalling the interior.

It looks as thought the car was originally white? Are you planning on keeping it blue or repainting back to original color?
Glad you saved the car as it was obviously headed down the "dark side".

Yes. It was originally white. It was painted black while it was still in service and issued to their drug interdiction team. I will be painting it back white with the OEM color paint code.

I still have a lot of cleaning to do but the interior is done for now. I have never seen vinyl interior like this before so I'm wondering if the seats were recovered at some point. However, it does look like Opal grey.
Anyway, it has some transmission issues I need to address to get it in drivable condition. Here are a few pics from how it sits this morning.

Yes, the tags were wired in to the bottom of the seats. I spoke to the deputy the car was assigned to and he confirmed the seats were recovered. Whoever did it did a nice job though.

I finally found time to install my exhaust, front brakes and rotors. I went with the Flowmaster Force II kit and all brake parts from NAPA. I also decided to retain the stock H-pipe.

All I planned yesterday was to fix the battery cables. One thing lead to another and before I knew it the suspension was blown apart. I ordered new spring isolators anyway so I'm glad I knocked it out. Good thing because I found out the rack is has play in the drivers side and the ball joints were wore out. I am going to go ahead and clean up underneath, clean up and paint the axle.

No tool is needed. Use a jack to take the weight off the shock and sway bar...unbolt them. Use a small chain and secure the spring to the A arm then slowly let the jack down. To install new springs reverse the order. Also the higher you get the car the easier it is.

No "special" tools needed to get it out. Like CNT said, chain the spring to the control arm just to keep it from flying out at you, lower the control arm and pry it out. The trick is getting it back in though.

Yeah, that's the trick. Getting it back in. And what a B*&^#H that was. I made my own special tool. A couple U bolts. Compressed the spring with a spring compressor rented from the local parts store. Hooked up the U bolts to keep the tension. Dropped the spring in place. Hooked up the strut. Let the U bolts off. Is what I finally came up with.

My spring compressor is a piece of crap. Tried today to reinstall them and it looks like I will have to get innovative.

Well, this took a couple steps back. In the process of lining up the hood and fenders, I discovered that the whole structural part of the front end was pushed over by 1 3/4" to the drivers side. I can only assume this happened when it crashed back in '95 and was not fixed properly. So, I dropped it off at a frame shop to have it fixed. It will be a week or two before I get it back but I'm sure it will be better than new after this guy gets done with it. This thing is going to be straight as an arrow.
