After a short trip into the office tomorrow morning I'm off for a roadtrip to Raleigh, North Carolina. Arranged an in-person meeting with my contact that works for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He was of course pivotal in my authoring the NCSHP SSP Mustang History & Restoration Guidebook.

Both Mustangs will be there and available for my viewing pleasure. Will be taking LOTS of photos in/out of the 1993 NCSHP SSP Mustang and the 1984 Mustang convertible "donated" to the NCSHP that was painted in their silver and black. I'll also take some video with my ipod that I can post up on youtube or something like that.

After the morning I won't have any access to this site for a couple days. To that end I won't be able to post any informational updates to this post until some time on Friday. Should be fun .

Mike , B-safe on your trip !
Maybe you can ask about my buddy's 91 NC SSP that they retired in 08 i think ?? it was a solid black ssp with not a single screw hole in the interior from equip ???? the car is in superb shape and have no idea what it was used for ??:headscratch:
thank you sir .

Hi Hector - I'll ask about the unmarked cars while I was there to see if can jog my contact memory on those kind of NCSHP SSP's. Unfortunately the tossed all the written records when changing computers circa 2000.

Returned home from my trip early this morning. About a 12 hour drive there on Wednesday and a 12 hour drive back on Thursday. It was a succesful trip to a beautiful part of the country. Took a few videos with my ipod and am trying to download those to youtube right now and will post links to them when I'm done.

Also took about 350 photos of the various old NCSHP cars including the 2 Mustangs; 2001 Camaro; 1941 Ford; 60-something Ford; Harley Davidson motorcycle; early 90's Cheverolet Caprice. Will be working to get those photos posted up to my Fotki album to share with you.

I don't own a ssp from that state but it's great to see that you made a special connection with that state and are taking the time to share that info with us here . I think most members would like to come across half the info you have , i know i would !

Pretty cool. Mike, did you figure out why the 93 has its front and rear amber turn signals on steady burn when the emergency lights are on?

Eric - I'm not sure, but it has a push/pull button (75 amp I believe) in the interior equipment setup, which turns those on and off.

I was able to get all the photos uploaded to my Fotki album from my trip to visit with my NCSHP contact. The photos include pics of the following:

1993 SSP still owned by NCSHP:

1984 Mustang GT still owned by NCSHP:

Early 60's Ford; Chevy Blazer; Car Seat demo CVI; Equip Truck; In-srvc CVI

2001 Cheverolet Camaro still owned by NCSHP

1993 Cheverolet Caprice

1964 Ford Custom 500 still owned by NCSHP

1941 Ford Coupe Deluxe stll owned by NCSHP

It is pretty cool that they have retained all these cars. The unfortunate part is they are kept outside albeit underneath car port type cover. You'll notice the interior is faded pretty badly inside the 1993 SSP Mustang. I was told the NCSHP has some other cars at their Training Academy and a Transportation Museum. Know they have an old Plymouth and a Ford Model A, which were not at the location I visited. I feel very fortunate to have been given such access to all of these cars.

Great photos! I really dig that '84 ragtop...it needs to be in my garage where it would get plenty of TLC.

The photos will be a big help with Volume 2 for sure. It was too bad they're being kept outside especially with such low miles on both the Mustangs. Without looking back at the pics so off the top of my head the 84 convertible was in the upper 20's k and the 93 SSP was around 52 k. The Camaro was under 100 k miles too.
