Was a switch in the trunk to turn off the trunk light when the trunk lid was up an option from Ford or something the Colorado State Patrol installed on their cars? I always wondered what the switch was for until I found the trunk light all taped up and inside the trunk lid (from when it was painted) and I reinstalled it and it did not work. I flipped the switch as my first step in troubleshooting the problem and the light came on. Anybody else have this on their SSP(s)? Thanks,
Bob

Bob can you post a picture? I will check my CO car tomorrow.

Jim, the car is at my cabin and I won't be back there until next weekend. The switch is a heavy duty steel toggle switch mounted on the drivers side trunk opening just below the weatherstipping about six inches from the trunk hinge. It faces the rear and the toggle lever is parallel with the length of the car. Down for on and up for off. Let me know what you find on your CO. car. Thanks,
Bob

Jim, I found this picture on my computer. Kind of gives you an idea of size and placement.

Yes....and it has a Ford part number on it (per a previous owner).

Yes, on the left. Was this discussed on another thread (Ford part number)?

I could legally mount my Stag Arms/Rock River Arms AR-15 (6.8 SPC) there, but it might freak out the anti-gun types at car shows.

No...it was an email exchange from a few years back.
My vote is that it was installed when the car was outfitted at CSP. If you want to bring it to the 75th Anniversary CSP show this September, you might be able to find out more. Of course, you might have to make some cosmetic changes to the car before doing that. :)
My '83 does not have the switch in the trunk and never did. I do have the factory radio delete on my car. The "throttle control" mentioned elsewhere doesn't exist and never did.

I have not checked for the switch but will as soon as I get over to the barn. I also have the radio delete option in my CSP.
