I got some time to look at my car after driving it across country. I found both buck tags covered in red paint. I located the inservice date sticker on the drivers door up by the door panel just above the top door hinge. I was able to scrape off the paint it was 7/1/87. The unit # 2920 was also painted inside the door by vin sticker.
I also found a tire depth guage and a flare inside the trunk down in the wheel well. Lots of fine dirt (dust) everywhere behind trunk panels and kick panels in the interior. Mabey it served somewhere by the desert?

Excellent documentation of the in-service date label. I've never seen them applied there before. Thanks and keep us posted on all the further developments.

Where else would the CHP typically place those stickers? I heard that they would put them on the dash panel, but I'm not sure of the exact location.
