This happened just after post-game celebrations for the Gator Basketball victory in Gainesville last night. Several thousand watched the game in the O'Connell Center, then flooded University Avenue to celebrate, per usual.

Lt. Dahlem was a 22-year veteran of the department, and my Sergeant on mids for a few years.

Rest-in-peace Corey.

I hope all is well with the officer and that he can recover from his injuries.
I really hope they throw the book at the kid who was DUI. This is why we really need tougher laws for DUI, especially when there are injuries.

Matt,

He was gone yesterday. They removed him from life support yesterday afternoon. He officially passed away today around 3:00 PM.

That's BS. Everytime I get an email of another Officer down from Officer.com it just pisses me off. I know it happens in our profession, but it's so much worse when the action that caused the death is negligence that was 100% preventable.

Everytime I see another Officer down, I say a prayer for them and their familes and hope that another one isn't lost again soon.

it kinda reminds us that the stupid basketball outcome means nothing in the big scheme of events.
