View Full Version : 1992 FHP1396 for sale, as auctioned by the State of Florida

I have been going back and forth about which car to keep, but I think I am going to keep the car that's been repainted and let the unrestored car go to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do.
This car is exactly as auctioned by the State (still has it's auction spray paint), with the only change being the mufflers. I considered removing the spray paint, but decided not to as these cars are only original once. The transmission was recently rebuilt and the clutch replaced. You can clearly make out "STATE TROOPER" down the passenger side fender (drivers side removed better), and clearly see the outline of both door seals. There is even a bit of one still there on the driver's door! The roof number is still clearly visible, and the male threaded part of the roof antenna is still in place. The Ventvisors are still in place, as is the Unity spotlight. This car has never been in any accidents (ALL vin stickers in place), and is absolutely tight as a drum. It is a fast one too, as many of you recall, some of these cars ran great, and some were kind of slow. There is only one other known car out there still in its as- auctioned condition, and many of you know that one (Mike's). 180k miles even.
As evidenced from the mounting holes, and Jetsonic spray paint outline on the roof (it was obviously still on the car when spray painted), the car had a both Micor and Spectra radios, a Jetsonic bar, the round Federal/Tomar deck lights, a Kustom radar setup (you can clearly see a shiny spot on the shifter bezel just forward of the velcro for the remote that is still there where the pushbutton would be), and a Able2 headlight wigwag which was apparently missed upon equipment removal and is still in the car. I will include a Federal JSS controller with the car as I have an extra one and they are so hard to come by.
$7500

Ok nothing has gone through yet on the FHP, bring all offers and trades/partial trades. I may be interested in a street/strip fox body or mod motor car, or possibly other trades as well.
I feel like I need to stress how CLEAN and STRAIGHT this car is. It really seems like it has totally never been touched, except for the exhaust change. All wiring, (including originally FHP installed wig-wag) is totally untouched, and the car is clean as a pin underneath with no leaks whatsoever, apparently ever.
I forgot to mention I can also throw in a correct Jetsonic lightbar.

Guys, after deciding to try and keep both cars, I have decided that I need to get down to one due to an impending move across the state. My unrestored car, FHP1396 go to a good home. Let me know of any questions you may have.

Update for the interested parties: After 3 years of being a garage queen, I got it out today and took it around the block after changing the gas, putting air in the tires and dusting it off. No surprises, ran the same as the last time I drove it (perfect with no issues).
Needs:
4 new tires (brand new FHP installed gatorback still on spare).
AC charged.
Ready for a new home!

Very nice! I bet it felt great to drive the car around. Question - can you confirm the last 6 numbers of the VIN?

The tag is stapled and I cannot read the number. Once the number is known, we can add your photos to the VIN Project.

Couple of fresh cell phone pics. I decide to wet sand a little of the thick spray paint off from the deck lid and c pillars as I suspected the second owner evened out the auction squiggley marks to make it look more even.

Congratulations...surprised took so long for such an original one.
Thanks for the car, James.
Took the car out to gas it up tonight.
It has a tight feel, and really wants to RUN.
I'm going to check the rear end, to see if it is still a 3.08, because it sure was froggy!
Next up a lot of cleaning, documenting, and decision making about how to best balance preservation and restoration.

You picked up a really nice car. Not many like that left around. Congrats!!!
Lots of cleaning and buffing, etc...so far.
Sort of assessing overall what is best...
Thinking 85% preservation, 15% restoration.
In the garage.... till next weekend.

Lookin' much better after a lot of elbow grease!!
and acetone
and clay bar
and rubbing compound
and paint cleaner
and wax
and repeat haha
and tint removal
and simple green
and power-washing
and...
well you get the idea.
Lots of careful dis-assembly and cleaning for the time being.

Acetone takes cheap spray paint off fairly well, you just have to be careful of what kind of paint is under the spray paint.
As for the restore part, I am just going to address the cleaning and documenting right now, along with a a few cosmetic things and replace the water pump (weeping) and ps pump (whining).
