1988 Nevada Highway Patrol Ford Mustang Unit # 057.

Unit #057 was stationed in Searchlight/Laughlin while being operated by Trooper Robert West, ID #112. NHP ordered #057 in a dark metallic blue (7N) with a blue interior. The roof was painted silver, then the NHP decals were applied to the car. It was equipped with an FS22 light bar, a Buddy Bumper push bumper, dual “A” pillar spot lights, a low band whip antenna on the left quarter panel, and two antennas on the rear deck. The car was retired with 81634 on the odometer. After service, the state repainted the car in silver before auction.

I purchased the car from a retired Trooper. The car had seen better days. The exact current mileage is unknown. The fuel injection system was removed along with the exhaust and a carburetor was installed. An x-pipe exhaust was installed with flow master mufflers. The wiring harness had been cut up and modified. The car had been lowered. I brought her home, stripped it down, and repainted the engine compartment. After purchasing an 86’ GT for parts, I began to reassemble Unit # 057. I cleaned up the block and heads, which are numbers matching, reassembled the engine, and installed it back into the car. I removed the dash, replaced the wiring harness and heater core, and reassembled the interior, after giving it a good cleaning.

As it sits, it needs an engine harness and computer for a speed density system to get it up and running. It needs the exhaust replaced, and a few odds and ends. I can go over these things if someone is interested. The car is by no means in perfect condition, it still needs work. It is rust free minus a spot on the driver’s door and trunk lid, which are surface rust. It appears to have never been in any collisions.

The reason for selling it is I’d like to secure funds to possibly purchase the 85’ NHP Mustang I have talked about in the past. If I can’t sell it to the right buyer, I’ll finish it when the weather gets better.

Included with the sale will be complete documentation, including copies of the original titles, copies of the vehicle inventory showing Unit #057 in service in August of 1992, a set of genuine Nevada Highway Patrol Big Horn plates, and an FS/22 Light Bar.

I’d really don’t now what to ask for it so I’m listing the car at $4500 because a price needs to be listed as per the guidelines here. What I really want is to get a decent amount for it and the buyer to get a good deal so I am taking best offer on it. The car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I will not be listing it on Ebay or Craigslist because the car needs to go to the right home. My records show it to be one of six, 1988 NHP Mustangs and should be restored back to in service condition. Shoot me an offer and feel free to email me or give me a call.

Good luck with the sale, and more importantly good luck on picking up that 85 SSP. THAT one is so worth saving IMO.

For the right price, a Buddy Bumper can be worked into the deal.

Update...

Over the last two weekends, I've been able to get the wiring in order. I’ve installed an engine harness and computer which is correct for the car, 1988 speed density. The car now runs pretty good. I did finish up the exhaust with a factory H-pipe, with cats, and a flowmaster cat back system. Here is a list of things needed under the hood to finish it up.

1) New battery cables
2) A coolant reservoir (missing)
3) The plastic cover at the starter solenoid (missing)
4) Plug wires (old)
5) Fan and clutch (fan has cracks and the clutch doesn't disengage)
6) Fan shroud has a broken tab (upper passenger side)
7) A/C system evacuated and recharged

There still are a few more odds and ends. I can go over these things if someone is interested. The car is by no means in perfect condition, it still needs work.

Equipment included with the car.
1) Buddy Bumper
2) Federal Signal 22 light bar
3) Unitrol light control head/unit
4) Whip antenna and mount
5) Correct General Electric Radio

Now with it running, I’m going to ask for the $4500. With the documentation and equipment included, this is a fair asking price. If the weather holds up, I’ll get it out of the garage and get more photos.

I've updated my photos since the weather was so nice today. I added almost 100 of them. The first link is a slide show. The second link is to the pictures in case you don't have the program to view the slide show.

Yes it is... they have been getting larger with each generation. Harbor unit started with a dingy basically and is awaiting it's next generation boat (4th or 5th rendition from when they first started).

That ford ltd is really cool!

Thank you! That one took a while to restore. Originally an East Lansing, MI Chief's car and had a rusted out frame when I bought it in 2004. Got the LTD done in 2008 and have been improving it piece by piece every year.

Well it's about time! :D All kidding aside, I'm glad to hear that you've got a buyer. I hope the transaction goes smoothly. Your SSP is one of those that I figured would have been snatched up immediately. Hope the new owner is/becomes a member here!

Mike just delivered it to me this afternoon, looks real good. Now the fun starts bringing this back to in service specs. I will be working on this one and my 1989 CHP#5190 at the same time. Chp mustangs seem to be harder due to the scarcity of the original equipment.

Welcome to the site. I think you will restate the scarcity statement when you continue the restoration. I looked long and hard for many of the parts on my car. You are now a proud owner of a very rare SSP. My CHP was much easier to find the correct equipment. Welcome and post lots of pictures.

Congrats to Mike on the sale and Tim on the purchase. Having both a CHP & an NHP is a pretty cool situation to be in! There is plenty of knowledge and resources available here to aid in bringing them back to show ready condition. Keep us updated and have fun with the projects....I'm so glad the NHP is staying out West!

Thanks to one and all especially Mike the quality of his initial work on this mustang is outstanding and greatly appreciated. Now I am having a hell of a time locating the original mounting brackets for the PAR-46 rear deck lights for the 89 Chp mustang. They seem to be as scarce as hens teeth any ideas where to look. My contacts that were at chp have all retired so no luck there.
