What does the correct factory am/fm radio for a 1989 SSP look like? I found on line that 87-91 were the same (but found no images). Will radios from other 1989 Ford models fit? The radio in my MN SSP is too new (has push button volume vs. rotary), and has a cassette deck which according to the History 999 report is incorrect for my car. If anyone has the correct one in good condition that they can part with, please PM me. Thanks!
Bob

Berno is correct, but your car could have also had a cassette player, as my '92 did.

What is the radio code on the door tag?

It is blank. So does that mean it got the base radio (am/fm no cassette)?

No. The code for the base radio would be listed. Likewise, the code for radio delete would be listed as well.

Somehow (not too surprisingly) yours is missing it altogether. I even double-checked and pulled out the '89 Ford spec book. No provision for a blank code.

I'd go with the base radio until you find out something to the contrary. Also, you do NOT need a Mustang-specific radio for a replacement. I drilled the rivets from a junk Mustang radio, pulled the bracket and pocket, and JB Welded it to the "new" radio. That was over 10 years ago, and we're still good.

I shouldn't need the pocket as that area is where the emergency light switch panel is located. Also Ford says (History 999 Report) it came with a base am/fm radio, so that is what I will go with.

Yeah, those pretty much suck, as previously mentioned here.

I think you're safe with the base radio.

A base am/fm radio is now on it's way to me!
