I took this information from the inservice section of the site. It says the following about my car:

"1991 FHP unit #1395. This car had Federal deck lights, and one of the many variations of font on the license plates (3M testing). FHP Photo. "

Does anyone know exactly which Federal Lights these may be? I have dashmasters for it but I want the car to be correct.

Also what does it mean about the plate on the car when its refered to as being different from the normal FHP plates?

Thanks!

Chris

Chris,

Those are Federal Director D1s. I only knew that they were made by Federal Signal when I wrote that, but thanks to a member here (FHP0827), the actual model name was identified.

FHP tested different plates for 3M (coatings, durability, etc), so there are multiple variations of the color/font/spacing.

3M also tested plates here in WA for WSP. They were, in large, a failure.

The Troopers clung onto their old ones and still run the stamped plates today for WSP. The font/spacing seemed to be off slightly as well depending on the batch.

Sample seen here (on the Expedition half way down the page):

Similar to what is now used for the personalized plates in WA:

FHP has done it for years. Here is a link that mentions the testing from the FHP website:

http://www.flhsmv.gov/fhp/html/FHPTag.html

That was from 2003, when they went to the new plates.

Thank you for the information. I just put a WTB ad up on eLightbars. Hopefully someone has these...

That's my fault....I meant to update the FHP Resto doc with the info when he told me, but it was in the batch of emails I accidentally deleted.

Chris...just an FYI. James found the info on elightbars and bought at least one there (it looks NOS). These are halogens, too, so you will need a flasher. Picture a Jetsonic takedown reflector in a black box, with a blue Jet lens (same filters as what's in the bar), and that's all they are.
