(This is my dads car not mine, but I will probably own it someday:D )
My dad bought this car in 2002 from the CHP. It has been parked and covered for about 8 years so EVOC #5281 is still just like how it left the CHP(rollbar, paint, "X's" on the doors, ect.). The car has had 4-5 engine replacements(motor presently in the car has less than 500 miles on it), 5-6 transmission replacements, and 5-6 rear ends due to being ran hard on the track(all EVOC Mustangs have had the running gear replaced at one time or another), although the EVOC cars were highly maintained and maintained better than the rest of the CHP fleet. The interior is still ALL original(other than the exception of seatbelts so my dad could drive the car and so I can ride along), it was repainted once by the CHP, but it is now highly rock chipped in the front and around the rocker panels from being on the track. #5281 was used on the track longer, probably trained more cadets on how to drive the mustangs, and has higher miles(32k) from track use at the acadamy than all the other EVOC Mustangs.

Recently, I helped dig the car out to clean it and get it going again. After moving the parts my dad had behind the car, my dad and I pushed it out of the hole it was in. I have vaccumed and cleaned the interior and have washed and buffed the exterior. Buffing the paint shined it up nice. After trying to get the old gas out of the tank (barely anything in the tank anyway), my dad put some fresh gas in the tank and I hooked up the jump box to the battery in it for power. Amazingly, my dad turned the key and it started right up:D ! The next day (after airing the tires back up to the correct pressure) we took it for its first drive in 8-9 years(if I can get them uploaded to YouTube I will post the vids).

My dads plan(in the future) with the car is to redo the exterior, do nothing with the interior other than paint the roll bar and add the safety harnesses, and put the e-equipment back in. I will continue adding pics and progress info as work is done.

Here's #5281 in action

The '92 is mid-360 and the 89 is the mustang farther out.

Thanks for sharing those...great stuff! Here are some photos of the car taken sometime in the '90s at an open house event at the academy. The gent who shot them now also lives in Oregon and owns a '93 ex-CHP Mustang.

Thanks guys! More photos to come. Those inservice photos will help with its restoration, thanks. My dad and I would like to find photos taken from the passenger door into the interior to better show how the dash equipment was mounted.

Thanks guys! More photos to come. Those inservice photos will help with its restoration, thanks. My dad and I would like to find photos taken from the passenger door into the interior to better show how the dash equipment was mounted. From the drivers side photo, it looks like the Rangr head was mounted on a modified shotgun/radio rack which may be similar to the one used on the '92 EVOC. Here's a photo from the passenger side of that car after it was restored.

http://images58.fotki.com/v513/photos/4/438439/1955813/92EVOC-vi.jpg

I can't vouch for the accuracy of that mounting. Try contacting the owners who participated in that project as they will likely have more details. The one who is on this forum is "xxtrpr." I found this photo on the Mecum auction site, you may be able to find more photos by searching the web.

I'm pretty sure that my dads was mounted differently without the gun rack, however the modified gun rack may be what the 92 originally had.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h340/Mustang_Kid84/89%20EVOC/IMG_0874.jpg

It had a bracket off the top of the dash connecting to the part of the radio rack where the gun rack would have connected (like in the 92).

It is actually a barn find 84 Oregon State Police Impala that my dad and his friend got to restore.

Original paint and interior, untouched for 20 years, still just like it left the auction(other than the hubcaps, whip antenna, and lightbar :) ).

Sam, I won't be presumptuous and tell you or your dad what to do with his car, but if that were my car... :)

...I would consider only making a few changes to it. These cars are only original once, even if they are showing their age. I would clean the black X paint off the doors, and add the CHP logos and lettering back onto the doors and decklid (even if you had to repaint the doors white). Then you could look at adding the CHP equipment that it used to have, and call it done. That car as it sits is oozing with character!

I was thinking the same as you on this one, Bill.

Agree wholeheartedly. Tried to convince the third owner of the '92 EVOC to keep it original too but it fell on deaf ears. That car looks good today but would have been ever more desirable as a lightly preserved survivor...all it needed was door paint, decals, equipment and some new roll bar padding.

I want my dad to get the title issues fixed so we could possibly take the car like it is to the Ripon Show, dont think it will happen though, but my dad may bring (if we can go) "the last CHP Caprice #2080". I may try and convince my dad to leave the car alone and do what you guys suggested. I too think that the car would be more desirable and neat preserved like it is.

Car wont go to Ripon this year. But the problem my dad sees with keeping the paint mostly like it is is that there are thousands of rock chips and the paint isn't very nice either(but it looks somewhat nice in the photos) and the door jambs have turned to flat black. Heres some pics of after I hand buffed the paint out(the hood was the worst and took like 15-20 min. to buff out).
Before buffing(ugly paint)

To be honest, my SSP is in a lot worse shape than yours and it's original and yours looks a lot better than mine. I did bring it to a local mustang meet, guys kept coming to see it and was amazed to see how rough she is but pretty motor. So why not show yours as it is as it was retired and rolled into your ownership? You can always get a sign "restoration in process" on windshield then they wouldn't ask any silly questions based on its condition.

Well, I am going to try and convince my dad(if he hasn't been convinced yet:D ) to just repaint the roll cage and the doors, put the decals back on along with the equipment and call it good:)
Unfortunately, the CHP had a cheap repaint put on it and its already starting to fail in spots. :(
