Upholstery/Seat cleaning

How do they clean these seats? I was hard pressed not to get the pair of front tan seats out of the '86 Capri today at the salvage yard. They match the SSP seats in appearance. Just not my '82 seats. Only one small tear that I noticed on the outer edge driver side seat back. Some fade, so they would need to be re-dyed.

Problem is, driver door is off and the passenger window is down. I bet these would stink to high-heaven. That's why I'm asking who cleans them and how.

There were rips and holes in the convertible top on my 84 GT so the seats in the car had huge stains and some green stuff on them. I pulled them out and using Blech-Wite, evenly spray the BW on the DRY seat, let sit a min. Now you get a wet wash mit or scrub brush (mit preffered) and start scrubbing the seat. Thoroughly scrubbing, rinse the seat with a hose until the whitish residue dissappears when water is sprayed on. Then just leave the seats out in the sun until they are dry(takes a day, maybe 2). If there are still stains from the weather, you can repeat the process(my stains came out the second time). BW can be used on anything and cleans real well, just don't spray it on plastic and leave it on for more than a minute, it will ruin the color.

I sit the seats in the driveway completely assembled and soak them down with a good commercial upholstery/carpet cleaner. If I am cleaning carpet I lay it across a sawhorse.

after they are sprayed with cleaner let them sit five minutes.

using HOT water I use my 2400 PSI pressure washer and blast them. I don't get any closer than about 6 inches to the material. Start at the top and work your way down.

you will be absolutely amazed at how much dirt will come out of the seats or carpet, including coffee, coke, or other stains.

unfortunatly RUST residue from metal will usually not come out.

Thanks, guys. I was planning on doing something different today, but now I'm considering going back for those seats. Somehow, the rear bench is bent upward just left of middle. Someone didn't know how to remove it I guess. Ticks me off, because the lower seat fastens the same as mine and I could have used that. The rear seat backs...it's a Capri, so they're split for the hatchback. But I could use the fronts and the seat cover off the back...

Man, I was hoping to stay out of the heat today. At least stay in the shade of my driveway.

I've used CLR to remove rust stains actually from fabric and also I would suggest calling your local water department as CLE's Dept of Water has a group that deals with rust on fabrics when piping goes astray and damages people's clothing. They provide a solid chemical much like CLR to help in removal of rust from fabric which does work well in the washer or added to cleaning solutions.
