I woke up today to an email from Major Barry Bratt with CSP. He wanted to let me know that the CSPPA ( Trooper Association ) is trying to raise money and one of their methods is selling retired CSP license plates.

When I called I was unable to buy my plates # 10-0237 for my car.

However I was able to buy 2 license plates for another car. They are used but in very good condition. I guess they were returned after the car was retired.

The plates I bought were for a 1983 CSP mustang. car #202

plate number 10-0202......

imagine being able to find and buy the original plates for a car that was in service 28 years ago. That is pretty awesome. Hats off to the CSP. Once again they have stepped up and done a good thing for us "car guys".

Now I just need to find out who I need to send these plates to. Anybody have any idea???? :) I think it was this car.....

Awesome!! Thanks for thinking of me.

I called and spoke with the Cpl. handling the sales. He thinks that they are the original plates and are in good shape. He will know for sure tomorrow when he puts his hands on them.

You just never know with these cars...certainly never expected to see original plates 25+ years later.

When I saw the email this morning ...I could NOT dial fast enough to check for my set! #10-0246
NO luck though :No no:
I did purchase a newer style with CSP 246 as this offer may never come up again.?

Mr Evil, you are 1 lucky guy!!!! Congrats!:2thumbs:
Jim and I spoke of your plates this morning but I figured he would NOT tell you for a few weeks. LOL
It's going to give the 83 a back in service feel.

Thanks CSP !!!!

I got my "CSP 360" plates for my 1992 Camaro!!! One in really good shape (rear) and one in fair shape (front). I was blown away by this email and when the Corporal called me back to say he had my plates.

And yes, we ALL thought of Mike and his '83, but Jim had already beat me to it.

I can't wait to get them. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be able to get the original plates off my car. I've been scouring eBay and even have a search (which I can now cancel) looking for CSP plates.

Hats off to the CSP for sponsoring our restoration of these cars and allowing us to purchase the original plates. Too Cool!!!!!

glad to help out Mike.... That was an opportunity I didn't want you to miss out on so I grabbed them. Pretty cool stuff !

I will have the platemeister make a set for my car. I thought about the newer plates but I have CSP documentation that shows my car had 10-0237 on it the day they smogged it in 1995 with 85k miles on it. That was done a week before it was sold at auction.

Just another example of why it is important to act appropriately with these cars. It helps to maintain great relationships with agencies that had the cars in service.

I need to forward the CSP email on to Michigan now. Maybe they will look for my plates for me...

Got mine today!!!!! Woo Hoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TOO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hats off to the Colorado State Patrol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better pics tomorrow. :D That top plate was definitely off the front of the car. The bottom plate is in REALLY good shape. I wonder how many cars theses were transferred to after my Camaro before the plate design was changed.

Also, I forgot to mention....it's a good example of what can happen when we maintain a positive relationship with these agencies. They definitely didn't have to send us, as hobbyists, the email notification about these plates, or even make them available to anyone outside of their agency.

I will check for mine this evening.

Clean them off or leave them the way they came? That is the question. LOL Not all the spots on the front plate are rock chips. I think some of it will come off.

Like I said, I was curious as to what vehicle these plates might have come off of last. I noticed an envelope in the bag and just thought it was a receipt. I later opened it up to find the registration for a 1996 Chev Cpe. Another Camaro!! How cool!!!

Greg:
Remember the reception we got from the CSP?
What a great organization.
Escorts to Central City up the mountain.
Let us run our fake plates for three days.
Run uncovered the three days, and NOBODY abused anything!!
Appears as of now we (PCOOA) will be having our nationals in Golden in 2013.
Hopefully will see you again there.I just wish FL. was as helpful!!
When I started showing their cars back 10 years ago, they welcomed my ideal with open arms and we had a SUPER working relationship.
Can't say enough about these people!!

I count myself fortunate with that given Bruce scored both original plates for my Michigan State Police SSP at the time he owned it. Also lucky with (now) Captain Rice presenting me with the plate he kept displayed in his office that was used on my Missouri State Highway Patrol SSP.

What's most amazing about this with the CSP is they went out of their way to dig these up and send to all of you. From what I can tell they did that without being asked. Great organization! :2thumbs:

This just goes to show these things can happen. Just takes having the right attitude and spirit when it comes to this hobby and fostering good relationships with the agencies.

Evil,Greg.. Congrats !

Mine also came ...But as mentioned earlier, NOT period correct for my 88 CSP! but it's the correct unit #.
CSP may never offer this again ??so we took the opportunity to make a GREAT collective item purchase . The plates are Brand New..:)
Plus ....We like the mountain design at the top of the plate.

A better pic of my plates. New plates would be cool, especially since they are original/official plates. But I think these used plates are just as cool because they were on the car while on patrol.

Out of curiosity, I may call the CSP back on Monday just to see if they have CSP 360 in any other plate design.

But I'm completely happy with these. :2thumbs:

When this thread first came out there were NO plates available for my 1990 unit number 237 CSP car. :(

but after being able to grab a mint pair of Texas Exempt plates for the 1985 last night on EBAY I thought I would make a couple calls.

Called Colorado today and miraculously they found some more plates after the initial batch. They have two mint plates "CSP-237" series 1989 to 1991 (like the plates Hector posted).

and I also have a set of e plates being made for the 1982 CHP car.

It has been a good SSP license plate week !! :)

Whoa! My '83 GL had those hubcaps! I've only seen one other picture of an '83 Mustang with them.
