Hi I just found/joined this site, I am on a few other Mustang related forums. I am from the southern Oregon area, and have been into fox body Mustangs since I was a kid. I currently own a 1986 OSP coupe, 1988 CHP coupe, and I also own one of the SSP 1988 Saleen coupe's. I sold a 1985 OSP coupe to a friend a few years back, and he still owns it. Ask me questions if you want to know anything else.

Thanks guys, yes I am over in Medford. I have had both my 88 Saleen, and 86 coupe for over 6 years. The 88 CHP car, I just found it in Oct sitting behind a fence it Rogue River, I spotted it on the way to a job, and when I came back the gate was open. I stopped and asked the guy if he wanted to sell it, and he said yes. I put a battery in and loaded it onto the trailer. It needs some work, but its complete and a good runner.

Welcome !
Good deal on the 88 CHP. I am restoring a 1992 CHP mustang.
I am also in Medford.
I'd like to get together with you sometime. Look at the CHP and OSP mustangs.
Feel free to contact me anytime.

What I was wondering is there a break down on cars ordered per state per year. Like how many cars did California order in 1988, and how many did Oregon order in 1986.

The CHP ordered 260 Mustangs in 1988.

How do you find out what number a car is?

First place you want to look is in this area above the door label:

They were written with a black paint pen. It may have been painted over but should still be visible in relief. My car also had the number marked on the backsides of the upper and lower rear seat cushions with a regular marking pen.

There is, but some of what's been posted up on other sites is inaccurate.
The CHP number for 1988 posted up by Mike C. in this thread was confirmed with documents directly from CHP's order from that year.

You have the very first 88 Saleen SSP. There were 14 in consecutive order, from 172217 through 172230.

88-0312 was the first one built, it had the highest vin # of the group. Mine 88-0313 was the second one built of the group, and it has the lowest vin. 88-0312 I think lead a hard life and is currently MIA. 88-0313 is a 50,000 mile original car that is dead stock. Maybe some day I will do some bolt on's.

88-0312 was the first one built by Saleen, not Ford. I was merely saying that 88-0313 was the first VIN in the group of those 14 Saleen coupes.

That's correct, the same thing I said, mine has the lowest ford VIN of the Saleen coupes. I was aware of this when I bought the car.
