What is right and wrong with paint. One of my fellow collectors from the 93 Cobra registry post some very intresting information about the engine bay paint on all the Foxbody Mustangs. I always believed the engine bay was painted just base color no clear. According to the post and or email that was forwarded to me... seems to change everything. I know the gentleman that has done a ton of research on the 93 cobras and he's usually dead on with his findings. You be the judge!

Jason,

From 93 Cobra site.

Paint code is D6-47873-A single stage enamel no clear coat

It is acually a different color, and is Single Stage Enamel not base clear. I have the paint code if anyone needs it. Also, if you look at the teal car, they are aqua geen under the hood not teal. I am not sure why for did this, but they do some silly stuff.

Black cars used Black under hood, just single stage, not clear coated, as for other Fox cars, they also used different under hood colors. Like my Son's 93 GT, the car is Silver, but the underhood color is a light Gray color, single stage no matallic.

Also the callypso cars have the same underhood color as the teal cobra's, reef blue cars have a dark green underhood color. PPG used to have alisting of all under hood colors on the car, this carried forward pretty much on all years, except for the 01 Bullitt, 00R, and the 03/04 Cobras.

Even the 96 Mystic Cobra was black under the hood. Ford did lots of silly things with underhood paint, you would think it would be more work to paint them different colors.

Hmmmmmmm....... !
