Hey all. My restoration is going to begin mechanically. My question to all of you is about my transmission. Should I get the one in my car rebuilt or should I buy a rebuilt one? I know with the older vehicles when you have the original transmission there is more value to a vehicle. Is this true with our SSP's?

I assume it's the manual transmission? Those generally can be rebuilt fairly easily and why not keep the original with the car as that makes any car more original.

Since still you have the original transmission to work with, then I would have that one rebuilt. As these cars age, just like other collector cars - the more original, the better.

Ok. Excellent. That's what I was thinking but I wanted to know some of your opinions too. I didn't want to put money into something and then have people say..."You could have bought a rebuilt one for half the cost and it wouldn't have effected the value." I want to keep her all original so I will rebuild the tranny.

Oh and yes it is a manual. Is the T5 hard to rebuild?? I am pretty mechanically inclined I just haven't ever messed with gears or transmissions.

Depends. Are you good with puzzles? :)

also using the existing tranny to do a rebuild saves money beacuse you can buy brand new T5 trannys for like 1400 bucks but rebuild them for 300-500 bucks

I'm going to keep my original. Now I just have to find a reputable shop.
