The following post was made in another thread this morning, but it seemed appropriate to discuss here.

Can't wait for a giant TX-DPS mustang meetup.

Chris, would there be any interest in getting a group together at the MCA Show in Beaumont, Texas in April? Here is the link:

http://www.poniesinthepark.com/

I know that a few folks have expressed some interest in attending this show (myself included), but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Personally, I haven't figured out if I would drive down in a Mustang (either the GT/CS or my black 85 SSP), or I could fly into Houston. It's a long drive, but I think attending this MCA show would be a great idea.

Below is a list of attendees that we will update to help coordinate things:

ATTENDING:
01) 28HopUp - Bill with a 2012 GT/CS
02) ChrisL - Chris with a 1986 TxDPS
03) NoDrama43 - Jim with a 2012 GT500
04) policemustang - Roman (as a maybe)
05)

Anybody else interested?

Bill, this might be a great idea. Austin has a open make/model show that I was planning on attending but houston would be pretty cool. I bet we could get Jason to come down with his '93, and I know Tom lives down there with his 89. I'd trailer the '86 in...

Let's try to make this happen, Chris. Being a MCA show, there is a relative cost to join and participate in the show, but it will be worth it. I know of 3 other members who have expressed an interest in attending this show, so I figured we should get a thread going to determine who will be able to come, and what Mustangs they will bring.

Barring any unforeseen events or work travel, count me in for this one.

Great! So noted in the first post (now including vehicle) :) I decided that if I am going to drive that far then I would rather be behind the wheel (and in the comfortable seat) of a newer Mustang.

I wont be able to attend. I have the Pate Swapmeet to attend at the end of the month ,its a week long event and I have to budget my time off at work. Thats to bad! I will be in Mustang OK for the MCA show there.

I will most likely be there. My agent is trying to talk me into going and signing some autographs.
Probably be good PR.

Hope the weather is nice. I'd hate to melt!

I just submitted my show registration with the host club. I decided to enter my 2012 GT/CS as "Display Only". I just cannot see entering into a judged class with a relatively new car. I plan to stay at the (now changed to the COMFORT SUITES next door).

Is anybody else thinking about attending?

NoDrama43

Jim, here is the registration page for the show -

http://wildhorsemustangclub.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1

The page is not laid out too well, IMO. You have to fill in the fields at the bottom, then go back up the page to click the "add this to my cart" button.

OK! I just booked a room for Thursday through Saturday nights at the (now changed to the COMFORT SUITES next door). Jim, all they had was a non-smoking King room, but I will gladly take the sofa bed.

Is anybody else still on the fence about coming to this show?

Haha! That will be a fun 16-hour drive, according to Mapquest. ;) And we won't need walkie-talkies since both of our Mustangs are factory-equipped with hands-free SYNC. :)

Since Tom M. is planning to stay next door at the Comfort Suites, and I needed to modify our reservation anyway for an add'l night, I cancelled my reservation at the Holiday Inn and booked a room at the Comfort Suites for Thursday night through Sunday morning. :)

back at the crib !

18 hours in the gt 500 was a ******blast****** on the way home today. Like flying an F-18 while being in a dogfight with a bunch of cessna 172's. lol

I met a great Sgt with LSP when I got off the 18 mile bridge near Baton Rouge. The guy flying the plane wanted him to have a chat with me. ;) so we talked about the car and how many months we both have left on the job and then a handshake and off I went. Nice guy in a freaking fast !! Tahoe. :)

Put the cruise on 83 for most of the trip, except for a couple of "breeze outs" on the open road in Alabama. The car still got an average of 21.4 mpg over the entire 2850 mile trip.

I had a good time and am looking forward to the 50th in Vegas with all the west coasters !!

Glad you made it hope safely, Jim! I enjoyed seeing you again. And Mike, thanks for the hospitality and taking us to The Shack for the awesome burgers. I enjoyed meeting Tom, Bret, Todd/Denise, and Bob from FEP. I had a GREAT time! Getting to Jim's was uneventful, and our tandem 16-hour drive to Beaumont went off without a hitch (except when our Garmins gave us different routes to Texas from Nashville!).

This was my first MCA show. I rec'd a few questions about my Delaware license plate, but I was beat out for the long distance award by some Mustangers from Washington state and the winner from Maine. The show site was perfect for the event -

...which includes photos from Friday night's BBQ, and a sweet 1959 El Camino that came by as we were in the parking lot behind our hotel.

The ride home took 26.5 hours, including the time change and a 1-hour nap along the way. A literal high point of the trip was a detour through the Shenandoah Mountains -

Bill there is no way you had any bugs on your car?? They were all on mine.

I spent 4 hours today cleaning her up. Miraculously not one single chip in the paint !!

She is all tucked away now.

Man I'm sad I had to miss this one. The new job was certainly worth it, but I hate missing these shows. Tom's car really needed some company there too. Bill, I'm glad you came away with a new parts stash for the SMPV!

The attached picture was scanned from the June 2013 issue of "Mustang Times". That white 1985 GT in the upper corner belongs to ImEvil1, and part of Jim's 2012 GT500 is shown next to it. Despite mixed reviews by some folks, I really enjoyed my first national MCA show!
