Well I recently picked this up, it's a 88 GSP unknown unit # ( for now), as a roller. It has spent the last 10 or so years of it life on the drag strip. I removed the trunk battery box, five lug suspension, nitros etc... I wanted it back 4 lug so I can run the correct black ten holes from time to time. I installed a mild 306/AOD I already had and am making it my fun car... I'll be repainting it very soon(the correct gray and blue with correct breaks). Not doing jams or under hood as it's decent and original. I'll also address interior (which is in bad need of help). But I just couldn't refuse it for the price.

Solid looking 'toy'! That's what I've got to convince my wife. Have a second Mustang for driving around while I work on the first one! Ha! That'll never fly with her.

Got two mint Ford fenders out of storage, sealed and trimmed them out and replaced originals ( the VIN labels had been painted over previously ). Painted a new aftermarket cover and installed it temporarily. Repaired crease down drivers door. Repaired roof patch for light bar wire( was cracking after all these years). Found and installed some correct and decent interior it was missing (Still need to replace quarter trim).

Still have a few dings to repair and lots of blocking to go but hopefully she'll have new paint in a couple weeks...

Keep in mind I'm not building this one into a show car. Just turning it back into a street car from a all out drag car ( it had no heater box, battery relocated to trunk, shut off switch etc...) done away with all that replaced heater box and put in new heater core. I didn't repainting engine compartment because its pretty untouched and not too bad. But I think I will do door and trunk jams, just to clean it up a little more.

The quarter glasses were removed for painting. I just have them bolted in with 4 nuts each temporarily for now, since they will have to be taken back out to paint the blue.

During the sanding and blocking process I found out Jones County painted the GSP black with a sorta mint colored gray roof and trunk lid. I would assume hood too but it is long gone so no way to know for sure... This expains the goofy looking break that was between the blue and gray on the roof. Would LOVE to find in service pics of it that way!

Hopefully get more pics posted up tomorrow. Still gotta stripp paint off door locks; swap door panels; remove moulding from original fenders; black out mouldings on front cover and down both sides( was on good so I did not remove them) side note (my $27 can of SEM trim paint won't spray!). I selfishly been driving the wheels off this weekend instead of updating pics... Lol

Booby, I believe you are breaking a forum rule by posting a picture from a dragstrip without including the ETs you ran. :)

LMAO :-)
Bill I did not even see this post... It's not what it ran when it was a all out drag car but I think it's pretty good considering the brakes were hold it back. It ran 8.71 in the 1/8th, but I'll try to get some better times now the brakes are fixed lol :-)

Well new update on my 88 GSP. I spoke with the retired Fleet Manager for the GSP today. I mentioned my 88 and how I didn't know the unit # and how I'd found this 8893 written on the key and how I assumed it was my unit #... Well we all know about assuming:-) lol Well that was not a common practice for the GSP.nor did the high # of 8893 sound right to him either. He told me he personally wrote the #'s on the 88's and that it should still be there. So after arriving home I looked again... There was three stickers on core support. After looking a bit closer two were taped up and one R34 replacement decal was put on after front of core support had been resprayed. Well I peeled it of and what do I see but my elusive real unit #! 8301... I felt a little silly but releaved all at the same time. I'd always questioned my unit # being that high. 8893 would mean 893rd car bought in 88. Well now I know for certain it's there in plain site :-) but at least I don't have that nagin feeling of doubt in the back of my brain now lol... Now where did the 8893 engraving come from and what did it mean? Jones county maybe?

Aside from the wheels, what else are you going to change back to stock? Your resto-mod CHP going to remain your SSP to have a little fun with?

Finished putting 8301 back stock. I'm gonna miss this one. But, I've traded it for a 89 to complete my collection... Plus I've gotta a deal pending on another 88 to replace this one. Hopefully I'll have a replacement 88 with in a month. I know of a couple more if the one I really want falls through. Then I'll be done gathering them, and I can begin the process to restore them one by one until I'm done. I wanna thank everyone that has helped and supported me in this goal. It has been a little overwhelming at times :-) But it has definitely been worth all the long hours; phone calls; craigslist crazies etc.
