I read in another thread that there is no difference between SSP radiators and other Mustang radiators. But I cannot seem to fit a stock 82 radiator into a 1982 I am working on (CHP 0204). I don't see any evidence of damage or modification to the support area that would explain it. Yet with stock radiators the tanks are about 1" too high. The upper radiator brackets also don't match up directly.

Has anyone heard of this problem?

I guess if I have to I will take it to a radiator shop and have one custom made. But that bothers me because I'd rather keep it completely stock, and also because I am very curious why stock ones won't fit.

Steve, sorry, I've not been on the site much at all lately. Whatever happened here? I can check numbers if I can find any on mine.

Glad you were able to get an '82.

Greg

Hi,

I have not been able to figure this one out. I don't see any evidence of the front end being modified, yet all stock radiators are about 1.5" too tall, so I can't completely close the hood.

Somehow, some way on this vehicle the metal radiator support structure has been changed out or modified so that it is not big enough for the stock radiator. I don't know how or why this could have been done, but it was. I have to change it back.

I've been working on cars for 40 years. I've never seen this problem before...

Steve, glad you finally figured it out. Time and the weather just haven't allowed me to get my '82 uncovered yet.

Feel free to email me through the site for any reference numbers or photos. It will help me too because mine may not be original as many hands it went through before getting to mine.

Good luck with the swap back to original.
