Texas SSP

I believe it is a DPS car from the little bit of research I have done. I actually bought this car from a police auction. It was privately owned when seized. Anyway after buying it I did some internet research. I saw what looked like spot light holes in the trim of the A-pillars. Sure enough it still has the buck tags.

Yes on being a DPS unit. It is right between know DPS.

Can you get a pic of the whole buck tag? (Remove the marker/headlamp housings?)
Can you get a pic of the door tag? (Could be painted over or missing.)
Does it have an M8-___ (1988 unit number) Dymo-type sticker somewhere on the driver-side A-pillar or B-pillar? (Could be painted over.)

I am sure Bill (28hopUp) would like to add those items to the VIN project.

Yeah! I can take the marker light out of the way for a full shot of the buck tag. As for the door tag. it is painted over IF it even still there

I removed the inner marker light and my phone barely makes it through the opening

What do most people do with their SSP? Try to make it look like it did while it was in service or custom?
Mine has sn95 leather pony seats in it now. They have seen better days. The trans seems to have a nice shift kit in it. the engine has headman headers, off road H-pipe, under drive pulley's and unknown internals. I haven't taken it to the track to see what kind of time it will put down.
The car seems a little healthier than stock, but not by much.

That is entirely up to you. Most members here prefer that SSP Mustangs be restored/preserved/maintained. Your local laws will dictate if your area allows restored police vehicles to be operated on the road. Florida is one state that prohibits vehicles from being painted/operated in FHP colors. You would likely need to cover up any police markings/lights regardless of your location, and/or trailer the car to shows. But a SSP does not need to be restored to in-service condition IMO for it to be saved. I had a 1985 CHP Mustang that I had painted all-black in order to use it as an occasional driver. I really enjoy driving these cars (and doing research). Others are excited about the hunt for a rare find. Some are into doing the hands-on restoration of these cars. There are many ways to enjoy SSP Mustangs! :D

I agree with Bill, as long as you're driving and maintaining it, that's the main thing. Which way you want to go with it is really up to you. Most guys either restore it back to in service condition or mostly stock. But we also have some that restomod them....but as long as it's being maintained and being saved....the legacy will be safe.

As for restoration, I don't see myself putting it in service condition at this time. I enjoy driving it when weather permits. Someone along the way has removed the a/c compressor, which I will be putting back on A.S.A.P.

And yes it its being driven and maintained. I am surprised at how tight the suspension still is. The interior is complete. What it does lack is A/C and cruise control (for Now)
I have always loved these little notch backs.
