Well I've traded my 88 GSP Perm 8301 for Bonafides 89 GSP Perm 9222. It was put back pretty much all stock. I also swapped out the interiors as the 89 had much nicer interior. Now I just have to clean all my interior and put 9222 back together. It's a lot of work but I was having a hard time finding a 89 and this helped us both out. One kewl thing about this 89 is that the 88 I plan on replacing 8301 with is this cars predecessor. Trooper Wilcox Badge 799 wrecked his 88 Perm 8292 ( I will fill y'all in more on it, after deal goes through) and was assigned 9222. So if my deal works out I'll have two from same Trooper...

I thought so too :-)
And Thanks!

Side note ;
8301 was once a drag car built by Dugan Racing
9222 was once a drag car built by Mathis Mustangs

So that's two GSP's that have been saved from the strip :-)

A little progress made on #9222.
I've got dash back in ; everything back together under hood and it back running (minus A/C...) Now after Charlotte I'll clean interior really good and reinstall. Plus I'll be swapping it back to auto, and putting black ten holes on it. I'll be taking this one home and bringing my 83 GSP 3083# to work so that it's full resto can begin... All while finishing the States GSP #1235  So I will be busy busy busy ... But the show must go on :2thumbs:

Also, I finished my collection with another 88 GSP but may still end up getting this car's predecessor... Time will tell.

No problem ;)
That is correct nor any 93's

It breaks down like this;
10 1983's
100 1988's
41 1989's
55 1990's
83 1991's
19 1992's

That was it grand total of 308 blue/gray GSP SSP's

Do you know how many of the 83s are still alive?

When I began my search there were only 3 possible cars out of the original 10. So they're could be another one possibly two out there. Or they could be on the pony stock track or turned into Kia's? We just don't know. Would be kewl for them to turn up and be saved !!!

But we do know none of the other 9 are still on the road...

Well now that the 50th is over its time to get busy... I've had a buddy of mine put 9222 back together mechanically. I've also had one of my employee's pressure wash the carpet, front and rear seats last week ( man they cleaned up good)... I'm hoping they'll be dry enough to install tomorrow. I've temporarily put the cowl hood and anniversary cobra wheels (what I had on my 88 Perm 8301) on her for now. I'm working on having a set of ten holes powder coated black for it. I plan on hunting me up a nice stock hood soon. So if anyone locally has one I'd be interested. Will post up progress pics soon. This project will be very quick, as I'm really just putting it back together and not doing a full resto. Car is an easy 8 out of 10 and will possibly be the last to get restored as it quite possibly needs the least attention. Some of you know this car as it use to be "Bonafides"...

I have an old picture of your car while in Serv. and also one with the numbers 277 in black letters, across the third brake light. Any idea what those numbers are for?

Please post it up. It still has those #'s on the brake light. In retired Fleet Manager Jimmy Crump's records there was a Trooper 277 assigned to a 89 Mustang Perm # 9261 Vin ending in 284840 from post 27. My only guess would be at some point that officer went through the trouble to put that on his brake light and then it somehow ended up in 9222 Trooper 799's car? If that indeed did happen then I'm sure it would have been post service not in service. Again it is only speculation and me and the prior owner have been puzzled on this for some time now. That or some weird coincident or possibly like another GSP out there... It had a Badge # 505 (which was a Trooper actually assigned a mustang but not that Mustang) so someone could have just put a known badge # on it ?

Any way I'd love to see them :D . I assume it is not a in service pic with the 277 visible?

That in service pic is actually Lisa Sams 91. It was given to me as well by Bonafide the previous owner of 9222.

Update on 9222...
Stock hood and black powder coated 10 holes back on her. I also bought a nice donor dash to replace the one cut up for gauges. I've stripped it down cleaned a dyed it all to look new again... Hopefully I'll have her back together for some pics soon. Also removing headliner to reopen Lightbar wire hole. I'll be installing all equipment and decals on her next. I've got my equipment tree outfitted and ready to install along with a KR10 radar... The paint is a 7.5 out of 10 so this will be my as in service car for a while ( at least until all the rest are finished LOL)

Well I've decided to go ahead and mark up 9222 as is. My thinking is this, It's only had had one repaint since out of service (painted Regatta blue all over then later had the gray added back to hood;trunk and roof). It is by no means perfect or show quality, Buuuutttt... It does have that unique "in service" appearance that I love. Soooo with that being said (For now at least) this will be my representation of a "in service GSP" Now onto equipment, I already have the tree built and ready to install and a Kustom KR-10 unit.

Getting her ready to possibly go back home... The roof is fresh and looks great but the blue was 8 out of 10 so I'm redoing the blue. Bonafide had installed a 5spd and now it's been converted back to automatic as well. Retired Trooper Ricky Wilcox 799 ( the assigned Trooper) wants to buy it to show. He's been a great help and become a friend to me, so this may very well happen...

Maybe I already have... Lol Or I may down size and keep just my 83; 88 "wrecked in service"; 92 LoJack & 90 hometown GSP's ;) That would leave me with one of each variation and my 90 to play with... Lots of decisions to be made... At least by keeping those I could always regathering the missing years later if I wanted too...

Time will tell...

Bitter sweet day for myself and 9222, (which has been the "Shop Mascot" for a while now). Everyday (for well over a year now), I pull it out by the road in front of Candy Apple Custom.

9222's history began as a new replacement Mustang for Trooper 799 Trooper Wilcox. He was issued a new 1988 Mustang 8292 in which was involved in a "no Fault" accident March 5th 1990. At that time (after a board of inquiry) Trooper Wilcox was issued a new 1989 Mustang 9222. He Patrolled it until transferring to Aviation. 9222 had around 65k miles at that time and was reissued to Trooper 277 Gene Cochrane until it was decommissioned. After being sold it was reportedly bought by Mathis Mustangs and raced for a brief period. Then put back mostly original and sold. It passed through a couple hands before making it to me. The roof had fresh paint but the rest needed reone. I have just refinished the remainder.

I met Trooper Wilcox (whom has been very helpful with info and contacts) not long after aquiring 9222. As time passed he began to show interest in having one of his old Mustangs back. Now after all this time and getting her into it's current position, Ricky will be picking up 9222 tomorrow. His plans are to enter it locally in both car shows and cruise in's. I'm hoping we can both attend the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival this fall with both 9222 and 2217...

This is my only 89 and I'm seriously considering downsizing to just four GSP's... The 83 (3083); 88 (8292); a 92 (haven't decided which one yet lol) and my 90 (0196) which is my first GSP and the local car that got the SSP bug started for me...

I do know of another 89 GSP "IF" I change my mind lol. But...

The logistics of being able to show all of them once done is a bit of a stretch, plus storage is another matter ( I do not wanna have to build a "Garage ma-hall" LOL). And I am about to begin building a 67 Fastback which is both expensive and time consuming itself...

At least I know 9222 will be just as cared for as it is now...

p.s. Trooper Wilcox hates the black wheels... His only deviation from stock he requested...

9222 Returning back to retired Trooper Ricky Wilcox 799....

Ricky is the first GSP Trooper to actually own the very Mustang assigned to him in service...

Was a bitter sweet day for me though. Ricky was extremely happy and I for him. She's in great hands now ( back home so to speak) and I know Ricky will love and take
