https://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/4566083036.html

1986 Ford Mustang SSP (Special Service Package) formerly in service with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). I purchased this a few years ago to restore this car back to former stock glory with FHP livery, but with too many projects and with recent moving expenses from moving from Maine to CT, I have chosen this one to go.

PRICE: $2500 includes additional "go fast" parts.

BODY: This has a very solid body where the only issues that would need to be addressed to make it near perfect would be the holes in the spare tire well that were put there for the fuel cell, the holes where the rollbar are, the hole cut for the cold air intake, the holes in the trunklid from when there was a spoiler added (which is now gone) and the bottom of the front radiator support is rusty. Front bumper, front fenders and hood (different one than pictured) are not original to the car. Doors and trunklid are original to the car and all lightbar and antenna holes have been sanded out for restoration purposes. Obviously, if you want to use the fuel cell, rollbar, etc., you wouldn't need to fill in the holes.

INTERIOR: This car will come with the custom black rear seat delete with built in storage area and black dash. All other interior parts are not there. Car originally had tan interior.

GO FAST EXTRAS: Price includes some of the "go fast" parts I took off. Those include a 4.5" custom exhaust, 4 like new Weld drag radials with Mickey ET tires, fuel cell and roll bar. Rear-end with 3.55 gears is already in it and goes with the car. I just need to find the lugs and centers, as they are in a box I'm yet to unpack.

PICTURES: Pictures below are from the day I picked it up. Hood is gone and other panels were put back to original. The picture of it during the day on the trailer is how I transported it to CT with the bumper and fender sitting off of it. I will take more pictures of the car when I can... hopefully in the next day or two.

*I chose "parts only" on the status because I have not received a title for the vehicle yet since I just moved from a non-title state. I will be checking up on this again this week. This vehicle will be sold as-is with a Bill of Sale and any other paperwork you need (most if not all of which I already have, depending on your state laws and requirements). You are responsible for checking with your state on title laws. If your state requires additional papers from me, just let me know.

CONTACT: When contacting me via craigslist, please include your name, phone number and that this is regarding the '86 SSP Mustang. I'll get back to you same day. No texting.

I wonder if this one is in the VIN Project yet or not??? We do have a good chunk of the '86 FHPs confirmed, but we always have room for another or add to the existing page of one. Has anyone contacted the seller yet?

Thanks Bobby! I do not believe he is a member here. His car may already be in the Project, but it never hurts to check. :)

Bill,
He's going to send me the door sticker pic in a couple days. The buck tags are no longer on the car...

He's also going to check and see if his other SSP's are listed or not and send those as well if not.

A little update on this one. I have made a deal to buy the correct equipment for the car. Also I am going to be picking up a 86 convertible that is a 5.0 car tomorrow. The body is shot on it along with the interior but the engine and all the accessory right down to the smog pump and dual snorkel 5.0 EFI air clear is on it. Now I just have to get the time off to go pick the car up from Joe and equipment up.

If memory serves me right the '86 CFI (not EFI) cars (automatic only) would have the dual snorkel intake setup. This was like a 1 or 2 year only deal, kind of a rare bird. It would get you up and running, but wouldn't be technically correct for a '86 FHP.

Dual snorkel was 1982-85, regardless of induction type. 1984-85 was CFI for auto trans and 4V for manual trans.

1986 was SEFI for auto and trans. The intake tract come from the passenger side only, and the the air filter/box was mounted to the passenger side inner fender.

So the car must be a 85 instead or a 86. It does have an auto in it. I am getting it because it has ever thing there. I will change it over to SEFI that is correct for the year of the car. I will be rebuilding a 4 cylinder T5 that I have to V8 specks for the car also. On that subject does any one have a bell housing?

Ok I'm back from picking the car up and equipment up. Long trip 2,200 miles in 4 days. Here are some pic or the car and the vin number. Door data plate is there but you can not make out the numbers on it.

John, I started a folder on your SSP for our VIN Project, including the AC report you posted in the VIN thread. Do you have a decent picture of the VIN label on the driver's door you can post? I'd like to confirm the DSO. Are there any FHP property stickers or other agency markers/features?

I'll try to get a readable picture of the data sticker. The numbers are hard to read on it even before you take a picture. So far I have not found any FHP property tags. In some of the pictures of the roof and a post you can see the tan paint. The places where the paint is chipped on drivers door shows black over tan paint.
From what Joe told me and auto check confirm part of the store. Is that the car was bought by an x-trooper and taken to NY. There the car was converted to areo nose and mass air. At some point it end up in an impound yard. The next person turned it into a drag car. Then Joe picked it up. Also interior converted to black, but can still find hints of the beige color on dash and the one coat hook.

Correct me if I am wrong, after looking at the VIN it seems to be an 83. Somebody on .org has a Carfax on it from 2010.

Tom, I know when I used my phone to look at the attachments in post #16 it was not easy to read the numbers and letters (particularly the first ones). But the VIN is a 1986 FHP - 1FABP26M4GF248663

Here are the pictures of the data plate. I took to close ups of the DSO number hoping it helps to read the number. Oh I wish it was a 83, I like the nose better! Plus it would be easier to put back as the speed density items are gone.
