As some of you already know, I recently sold FHP 1537 and bought GSP 1238 from a member. Bobby (kapracing) was able to determine that 1238 was originally a slick top unit and to date....the only known, confirmed slick top of the aero GSP's.

So, without wasting much time, I carried 1238 to Bobby to begin the transformation back to slick top. He'll be removing the lightbar, filling the lightbar cable hole and repainting the roof. This car has 3 antennas installed on the drivers quarter. 1238 didn't have any antennas on the drivers quarter while in service so Bobby will be filling those holes also and repainting that quarter.

After the Savannah show, my plans are for Bobby to repaint the remaining ultra blue panels and she'll be pretty much complete. A lot of the hard work on the rest of the car like interior/undercarriage/underhood was already done by Russ, the previous owner. I'm just completing the process.

In Service pic of 1238:

Roof hole completely welded up... Slow and steady with no warpage... Now just the small indentions left from the light bar feet being to far inboard... Asides from the hole and very slight indentions mentioned above, the roof is really straight... Next will be moving onto the three holes in quarter panel... More pics. To follow...

Sad to see you welding on top of that beautiful paint! (but I know it's for the right reason).

Body work done and in primer...
Found lots of small imperfections in the old paint on the roof so I blocked it down good and put a good coat of primer all over it, now blocking and more blocking.

How's the blue look to you Bobby? Looks very nice in the pics. Anything needed with it?

Mike, I'm going to have the Ultra Blue redone either this winter or next spring. I won't have time before the Savannah show.

Sorry to hear about that, is the color shade still off a bit?

Mike,
With out going into a lot of detail, I'll just say the blue will need redone. It is disappointing, but unfortunately that's what needs to be done to bring this car up to the level it needs to be at. This is a super nice foundation, the undercarriage and interior is amazing and the engine bay needs very little. I hope I can get all of my GSP's in as good of condition (in these areas) as this one is... The car will make Savannah and show well, but just keep in mind, Brad does plan to have the blue redone...

It is good the two of you are putting this kind of detail forth to build upon the nice foundation.

The decals included with the car ( M Squads ) I believe? , were so far off it was pitiful... I got Brad a set copied from scans of a set of originals. Now she really looks the part

Brad, I just noticed that Perm #1238 is not in our VIN Project (or the page is lacking information to ID it as #1238). Can you post up some pics or email them to me?

Yep, no problem. Send me a pic of fan shroud or core support and we can add all of it to the page also!

I will update the page for your SSP in our VIN Project...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/GSP/1991GSP176501/info176501.htm

...but for now I have attached a current screenshot of your car's page in our VIN Project. I have no recollection of the source for the photos used in page, but the car was clearly a restored with a lightbar. Below is a link to a photo section of what appears to be the same car -

LINK (http://www.sspmustang.org/personal/po_photo11.htm)

So was your car at one time marked as perm #1279 with 505 on the roof? I won't use those photos if it is the same car. Brad, if you have any current exterior photos, please post them up or send them to me. I'd like to nicely document your GSP, since it is the only aero-slicktop GSP found yet.

kapracing
10-09-2015, 09:19 PM
It was incorrectly marked as 1279 ( highest Mustang Perm for 1991 was 1262 Jonathon Powells ) the individual that first restored it put 505 on the roof to honor his friend Trooper 505 Jerry Ward.

I haven't been able to post any better photos because for some odd reason I don't have any on my phone that aren't with other cars or taped up. It's in storage at the moment so I haven't been able to get more pics. I'll have to check my computer for better ones.

The page in our VIN Project has been updated, with the photos removed from the car's previous life when it had a lightbar -
