Made it to the Quincy office in approx. 4.5 hours. Nice drive !
Nice day, had a couple rain showers, loud thunder after arriving. They have H U G E rain drops here, the kind that about knock you out when they hit you on the head lol

A lot of good guys here in this office. We took the mustang for a drive around town, a good 30 minute one at that lol
I was amazed he didn't stop someone for the heck of it with it LOLOL
( was actually hoping he would )

Car show is tomorrow. She's at home sitting in their back lock tonight.
Almost looks like she belongs here lol

It's a pretty place here ! With the mountains and the Feather River canyon.

Bill,

It was a good time. Lot of neat cars there. I asked around for old pictures in the office. No ne had any or knew if there were any around.

This was one of the only offices that showed a lot of interest in the mustang. One officer drove them in 91 - 93, and the P.I.O. had a couple fox bodies before entering the CHP.

A lot of people at the show showed a lot of interest in the car as well.
More so than other places and shows I've taken it to.

Quincy is a pretty place if any of you ever get to the West Coast and have time to go there.

Heading home, HWY 89 near Mc Cloud, which is near Mt. Shasta, had a HUGE black bear walk towards the road in a field, wide open, just stand there. Must have been heading to water, it was after 1700. biggest black bear I have seen. Pretty neat to see that.

Here are a couple other pics of the show set up.

That 02 Camaro is from Northern Division. It's used there by the P.I.O. in N.D. for public service ordeals. ( Redding, CA )

AND....just F.Y.I....Sounds like the Patrol may go away from the Explorers. Not that good of a patrol vehicle as expected. This is hear say by the way, don't hold me to this info.

They will go to a sedan again, most likely chargers. Nevada HP is dumping the explorers. Going to chargers. They followed CHP by ordering on CHP's original fleet order. They did not re order and sounds like CHP will not as well. So I hear anyway. Nothing is for sure until you see it happen lol

It's a mixed feeling from the officers on the explorers. they all agree that it is hard to see out the back and rear sides. I sat in one and it is hard to see anywhere behind the driver and passenger side windows.

Not good for fast u-turns or backing. And to me, there really isn't all that much more room in them compared to a sedan. The so called " trunk " area, is filled with radio equipment, and what room is left, is regular equipment that would be in a trunk of any other patrol car.
And some of the equipment is stacked on top of radio equipment and blocks what small rear window area is left.

Everyone agrees there is no room for 4 officers and all of their gear in these units. They like the fact of sitting a little higher in a vehicle. It's easier to see.
So... just passing on some info is all.
Like I said, this isn't in stone lol

Great stuff John! I heard the same sentiments about the Exploders from the guys at Central Division down at the Morro Bay show and also from the local PIO recently. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Is that '02 Camaro still in service?

It's not used on the road as an enforcement vehicle, put it that way.
But it is in service for public relations use. Radio and all emergency lights work etc.

It's basically a full functioning display vehicle.

I was told by CHP fleet when they ordered them that the reason for purchasing Explorers was none of the sedans available could carry the weight of all the equipment and four passengers, so a replacement may be difficult.

NHP may be getting away from Explorers citing that it costs far more to equip one versus a Charger for different reasons. My son has been assigned two different 2014 Explorers and has put nearly 50,000 miles on them without a problem. Visibility out the back is tough but better than the Taurus he has now. In 2013 NHP ordered regular Explorers like CHP but their 2014 and 2015s are ecoboosts and are far better.
