Hello guys. I've been an SSP owner for 7 years and wanted to know how to share (and find out) information about my vehicle. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
...forgot to add info (haven't had my coffee yet):
1989 Georgia SSP, DSO 21-0236, State Police, 1FABP40E6KF289902. I purchased the car from a private owner in NC several years ago. The car was already repainted blue and the original rims were not on the car when I purchased it. Basically a standard looking Mustang Coupe that you wouldn't know was an SSP unless you saw the buck tags and a few miscellaneous parts specific to SSPs. Beyond that, I do not know the history.

Norm, welcome to the forum!
Thank you for providing your VIN and DSO number. Your car has the same DSO number as some other SSPs that are identified as being from Hall County (which is located NE of Atlanta). Here are their pages in our VIN Project -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/MISC/1989MISC289898/info289898.htm

I am no expert on the Hall County cars, so I hope someone else will chine in. The above cars are all listed as unconfirmed agency usage because no documentation has been published to confirm that they were used by that agency. I have a feeling that your car was not used by the GSP. We have a resident GSP expert, kapracing, who has a complete list of VINs used by the GSP. I will let him weigh in...
Please post up some photos when you can. We LOVE seeing pics of SSP Mustangs. :)

Welcome to the site. +1 on the pics.
I have attachd pics of the car, part of the dash, and buck tags. I couldn't get a decent pic of the buck tags because they were folded in half so I had to remove them; each attached with a single phillips screw; not stapled. Door placard is not present on the car. Engine bay, door jambs and complete exterior was painted before I owned it. I didn't purchase the car because I thought it was an SSP and it wasn't sold to me with that info. So, I'm not sure if the owner knew it was an SSP or not. I purchased it because it was a nice looking and running coupe. Later I thought it may have been an SSP based upon some options that it had and the discovery of 2 buck tags.

GSP ordered 42 SSP's in 89... GSP did not use unmarked mustangs... GBI repainted a few decommissioned GSP's and used them however. The batch of 27 and batch of 17 are all 42 with two cars in those batches not GSP units.

Nice looking SSP. Looks to be one of the Hall county cars. It is not however a GSP. I do not have any info on anything but the 310 GSP SSP's so sorry I could not help with further info at this time. With as many Hall Co. cars turning up seems like I could find someone with info in the future...

Thanks for the information about the Georgia SSPs. As I understand it you're the guru on Georgia SSPs. Also, that's an impressive collection of GSP vehicles you own. I've got a couple of questions for you... Does this mean that Atlanta ordered 42 or 58 SSPs for 1989? And, what's the difference between confirmed or not? I have buck tags with a matching VIN to my car, is there more info required to confirm it as an SSP, or is the confirmation require info on the agency that used it? Also, how was it determined that Atlanta ordered the 16 Hall County Cars? Just trying to get my head around all this info and if I should pursue any other leads. Thanks.

Norm,
In the project confirmed is usually agency used... but maybe Bill will chime in on all that... GSP ordered only 42 mustangs in 89. I'll be posting up all the vins in the future per my agreement with the person retired from GSP that provided me with the documentation... As of now it is not known exactly how many Hall Co. ordered... I hope this helps explain some...

Ps a SSP could have GEORGIA on buck tag but still not be a GSP... I know it's confusing I wish they would have just put the ordering agency on each and every one of them... That would have been a big help..,

Ok, thanks. I agree, there doesn't appear to be any standard method to the buck tags or way to determine the specific agency use. I'll wait to see what you have on VINs, or if mine is even on record in that list. Have you ever come across a "build sheet" stashed away in any of your vehicles? Are the SSP options a possible clue, or is that another dead end? Again, thanks for the info.

All 17 of these cars are GSP plus there is a batch Mick did not list of 27 car prior to these with all but the first two being GSP cars for the total of 42. Those 42 vins are the only ones ordered and used by the GSP for 1989. I'll try to see if anyone knows anyone that may be familair with the Hall county cars as that what I'm fairly certain your is...

Norm,
Your bucktags confirm the car as an SSP. We have a ton of cars on the list with unconfirmed agency usage, many are also confirmed SSP cars. Sometimes, it's easier to show what it is and not what agency it came from.

I'm confused by "STATE" being on these 21-0236 units. Why would that be if they were originally used by Hall County? A grant perhaps? Or perhaps Hall Co got them second-hand after the 1st agency used them?

Searching for the answer to that appears to be similar to chasing the rabbit down the hole. I'm not too hung up on the agency that used it. You guys have been at this for quite a few years, and most of the passion for these vehicles seems to be State Police agency use. I'm just a wrench turner who happened to fall into owning one. Maybe someone will turn up with the missing link to the Hall County cars. Thanks for shedding some light on the Georgia specific info.

Thanks, Mike. It all makes sense now that I've had a few days to go through this site and see how it's setup. There's a ton of useful information about these cars on here and thousands of hours put into organizing the data. The amount of information in here is impressive.

"State" could have been many other agencies besides GSP (but still State of GA). We have seen all kinds of different variations of what was stamped into the buck tags. Hopefully, one of these cars will surface with a build sheet in it which could shed some more light on the order.

1FABP40E5KF135908 - State of Georgia
I owned this one a few years back. It is believed to be a Cobb Co SSP. But has Georgia on buck tag as well. I have the complete GSP GBI usage records which this and the Hall Co cars were NOT a part of. Somehow when ordered by local agencies these cars evidently got labeled Georgia on buck tags... Could there be another State agency that ordered some SSP's? Possibly we know the DOR ordered one in 84...

Although collectors do tend to drift more towards the Highway Patrol units the local agencies are usually more rare. Sometimes 1- 10 or so units being ordered. Rare does not always mean most sought after but any SSP (at least in my opinion) is more desirable than a standard 40E coupe.... There is still some confusion about a specific state being stamped on a buck tag. But we have evolved in leaps and bounds over the last few years and will continue to do so. The Mods here on .net are very very adement about keeping everything factual current as new info arises. Please be patient with us. We will eventually get to our destination... I'm still amazed at how these cars move about this country sometimes... Again congrats on a very nice looking SSP:2thumbs:
