Happy to be able to post this thread and that the forums are back online. I'm sorry for the delay, as a work deployment during the middle of the issue precluded me from doing some of the work to get this back up. The short version:
GoDaddy migrated the website, without telling me, to a new server. During the move, they apparently corrupted the entire database. I spent weeks dealing with them, while being told varying reasons for the outage.
What it came down to was the corrupted database and incompatible versions of MySQL and PHP on the new server.
So...I went ahead and upgraded our software after they restored the database. We only lost about a week's worth of posts. I learned a lot during the process, too.
Hope the look and functionality haven't changed too much. It looks good to me for now.
