Found this article (http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=MH&s_site=miami&p_multi=MH&p_theme=realcities&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0EB35D7EC9C07DCE&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM) the Miami Herald published back in 09/11/1983 looks like talking about when FHP first got their Mustangs. It's just the header as you haver to pay for the full article, but found it interesting the reporter saying once the trooper hit 4th gear, the car hit 140 mph (sounds like he was riding with the trooper). The media would crucify FHP if they did that with them today... ahhh, the good 'ole days.

At 120 miles an hour, the high-powered Mustang rocketed past cars Saturday on Florida's Turnpike north of Homestead like a black-and-cream-colored bullet. Florida State Trooper Al Reyes, concentrating steely-eyed behind his black Raybans, dropped his right hand to the console. He slipped the stickshift into fourth gear. The Mustang responded, revving to 140 m.p.h. Highway "bandits" beware. From Miami to Pensacola, these speedy Smokies say they will...

Kind of interesting looking back on this stuff.

The Florida Highway Patrol suffered the first casualty among its fleet of sleek pursuit cars early Monday when one of the Ford Mustangs stalled on Florida's Turnpike and was broadsided by another car. Spotting a possible drunk driver about 2:30 a.m., Trooper Hugh Dunnaway, 40, of Margate, made a U-turn about two miles south of the Hollywood Boulevard exit. His car's high- performance engine stalled. The car stopped in the middle of the highway. Dunnaway, a...

I wouldn't give a nut for it, but definitely a cool car.

Pics with these would be great! I'm pretty sure there should be some with the first at least since it was an investigative report and it sounds like the reporter was on scene. I looked for a contact # online but it looks like they are all business hour #'s. I'll look into it next week sometime as soon as I get a chance.
