Here is an original Motorola brick Phone ....early to mid 80's Vintage (((the original hand
held cell phone))) and the perfect PROP for the early to mid 80's SSP Mustang.
At a show people will know what it is (or not)? Allot of these have made their way to the
land fill and have since been replaced by the (ON YOUR EAR) I am a crazy
person..talking to myself in the grocery store Phones.
I will have this in the trunk of my car ready to display on the dash or passenger seat at the
next show (as a prop) empty donut boxes belong in the land fill and not as a prop for your
SSP. any other era correct car show Prop Ideas?
I know this was not a CHP issued item but is definitely 80's Era correct. and I am sure that
from time to time these were used as a supplement to the CHP Radio system.

Answer your question.

Will it still work? No!

The government law requiring cell phone service providers to stop analog service went into effect last week. There is no longer analog cell phone service therefore the "brick" can no longer be used. This discontinuation of analog cell phone service has been in the works for 2 years and will free up additional frequencies for other communications.

Not exactly true...but I wouldn't be trying to use one of these anyway. The microwave radiation coming off of one of these is not brain-friendly. :)

The FCC mandated a 5 yr "sunset" period in 2002 where the cellular companies were required to provide analog coverage. That is what just recently expired. So, the companies "may" but are no longer "required" to provide analog service as a result. Verizon is one of the major companies that ceased AMPS coverage, but others may or may not be doing it immediately.

I found yet another prop for the dash or front seat!
vhf GE Portable this is the radio the officer would use to talk to the car (when out of the
car) the Micor in the car would repeat to dispatch
this was the extender Radio! the system made allot a sense because the officer had control
of his car's two-way radio when out side the car....
knocked down:eek:
run over:ranting:
or fall in a ditch:doh:
you can still use the police car's radio remotely!

Greed is GOOD.

That is why I still have "my" brick.

My SSP was equipped with a brick wasn't it?

This is my trunk display. I also put a ticket book in my front seat.
Many onlookers get a kick out of that!
