Somebody recently asked how many SSPs we have documented so far. Here is the current count as of today:
	1982 . . 22 SSPs 1983 . . 35 1984 . . 73 1985 . .246 1986 . .151 1987 . .389 1988 . .263 1989 . .403 1990 . .271 1991 . .148 1992 . .191 1993 . .377 ----------- . . . 2,569 SSPs Total in Project We ordered five more Marti Reports this week, thanks in part to Bobby who forwarded some scratch to run 3 reports on likely GSP Mustangs (thanks again Bobby!). I will post those up once they arrive. :) |

Thanks go out to Bobby for having three Marti Reports run. Two of them came back as SSP Mustangs, and are part of the GSP group from 1983 -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info188925.htm http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info188934.htm The third report was for a possible GSP from 1987. It was an educated guess which did not pan out for us. Still, the Marti Report DID turn up something interesting (check out the second option listed). :) |

I know! :) Not only is it a coincidence to have randomly found an ASC McLaren, but we confirmed that at least some of them were ordered with 6-digit DSO numbers. Attached is a VIN label for another 1987 ASC McLaren that also has a 6-digit DSO.
So a question comes up now regarding our VIN Project. We have been adding a notation to civilian VINs when found to say that they are not SSPs. Should we continue this practice with the ASC McLarens? The VINs for quite of few of them are known. |

 I vote yes...
I know our PROJECT is for SSP's But i think any info we find should be posted up for a more (complete) list. Just my 2 cents worth:-) |

I agree with Bobby and say why not? Given one might mistake or misrepresent (without putting a little extra effort) a DSO on a car like this as being associated with an SSP.
	 |

Until now I had not realized that 1987-1990 ascMclaren convertibles were build on the LX 5.0L coupe body (P40E). I had seen the VINs for these cars before I just had not payed attention that they were P40E. I sent Bill an email last night covering all of the aero asc VINs. The total is over 1800.

 Good stuff!
	POOR BILL !!!! :-0 LOL |

 - [ascMcLaren, not a SSP] ...to the cars that are confirmed, as opposed to creating a registry for the cars by listing all of the VINs indicated so far. It is still quite a few cars. And identifying them as not being SSPs is still helpful to our efforts, especially since they came with 6-digit DSO numbers too. |

As an '88 ASC McLaren owner , I vote yes. There is interesting info on these cars on the ASC Forum. I have my Marti Report for mine.

The confirmed 1987-1990 ascMcLaren VINs (those in batches of 3 or more) are now indicated in our Project. :) There was one batch of 1988 VINs which included a SSP Mustang (so far) in addition to the ascMcLaren VINs.

This 93 GSA car just popped up for sale, and the seller included pictures of the VIN label and Buck Tags -
	http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info166937.htm :) |

Didn't see the ad. eBay or Craigslist?
	 |

I found it on ebay using www.dailylister.com to search for "SSP Mustang". Here is the listing -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-...orcev4exp=true As an aside, I just noticed that this thread now has over 20K views with 50 pages of posts! |

 2 Arizona Mustangs added

We just added two Arizona Mustangs to the Project. The first is a 1986 Arizona DPS Mustang, which popped up recently for sale in Michigan (includes a copy of the build sheet) -
	http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info208340.htm ...and the second one is a 1987 in Bright Regatta Blue belonging to 67gt500 - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info206337.htm :) |

As a follow up to the previous post, Rob aka 67gt500 contacted me about his 87 SSP. He has been unable thus far to verify that his SSP went to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. So I changed the car's page so that the header matches what it says on the Buck Tag - ARIZONA. Hopefully, the car's exact pedigree can be determined in the future.

There is a 1991 South Carolina SSP for sale locally. I have not seen the car (yet), but I have been corresponding with the seller. Once he gives me more details, I plan to post a thread in our for sale section. He did send me some pictures for our Project, which I used to create the following page:
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info155984.htm There are two other SC cars confirmed in the same DSO. It looks like a nice car too. I may catch up with him this weekend at the Faulkner Police Cruise Night in West Chester, PA. Here is the info on that show: http://www.faulknerauto.com/CruiseNight :D |

So while I was attending the Faulkner police car cruise last night, I had the opportunity to speak with a retired Maryland State Police Trooper, who was there to help with the driving duties of one of the several tasty Maryland State Police vehicles on display. He informs me that Maryland actually bought SSP Mustangs, which was news to me. He said that they bought roughly 50 SSPs in 1989. These were not used as patrol vehicles, but instead by detectives and other officers. He was certain of the year, but said the number could have been less than 50, as he remembered it.
Soooooo, it appears as though there is a batch of 1989 Maryland SSPs that are yet to be found. ;) Looking at our VIN Project, there are quite a few possibilities: -40 VINs starting at 136342 -83 @ 191970 -50 @ 220499 -65 @ 224093 -61 @ 230502 150 @ 238561 100 @ 242294 -46 @ 264885 -43 @ 271841 -39 @ 283972 I think a little time spent researching VIN histories has the potential to identify a block of previously unknown SSPs. We can then order a Marti Report(s) to confirm them as such. How cool would THAT be!?!?! |

Great...more detective work to be done. :( Thanks, Bill! :p
Just kidding. :D I love doing this stuff! :D :D I love excessive use of smilies too. |

This is not much but none of those 677 VINs have current inspection info in the state of MD.
	 |

I was hoping that something would "jump of the page" in terms of the research. Since the information came from a retired Trooper, he may be a bit fuzzy on the details (i.e. off by a year or two). Regardless, thank for putting the time in to look for them.
	 |

My pool of "free" resources for checking VINs has dropped by one, and that one change is significant. :( On a positive note, I was able to find a VIN check on the MD DOT site. :) http://mva.mdveip.com/
	 |

Mick, do you want to divide the list of possible VINs and email them to me? It will get done twice as fast that way. We can divide it further if anyone else wants to run VINs to see if a pattern turns up. :)
	 |

Bill: I have no VINs on my plate right now to check. Did you have some in mind?
	 |

None specifically, other than the groups I posted earlier. Of course the Maryland State Police could have purchased the cars under more than one DSO number, with smaller batches of VINs.
	 |

Here are the VINs that I have checked on MD DOT site:
http://foxchassis.com/files/ssp/MDInspectionCheck.xlsx If you have more groups of VINs in mind I can add them to that file. |
