I agree on that valuation range. As cool as any documented SMPV is (which is WAY cool), the last ones were the least interesting iteration as the only deviation from a normal PV was the white paint and in some cases deletion of the deck lid lettering. In any case, I hope this one lands in good hands!

I remember reading that the 1st year SMPVs did not have rear decklid lettering on them, but I just noticed in Sam's pictures that this one while at MT was still marked on the door...

It's too bad the CHP had already removed the equipment when the above photos were taken. It would have been nice to see the arrangement used for the rear lights, even if they were just like the B&W units.

Hopefully this is not too big of an assumption here on my part, but notice the plug on the decklid for the antenna normally found on the roof? Pretty cool!

Bill - Did the CHP use a Whip Antenna on the quarter of the SMPV SSPs? I was thinking they did not. The one for sale certainly had one. Are the pictures you posted from the "yard" of this same car. That one doesn't really look like it had one. Is it possible this car had one while in service with the CHP or served somewhere else after the CHP who installed? Thanks.

The SMPVs from the 1987 pilot-year did not use a whip antenna on the 1/4 panel, which you can tell was removed from E408383 when the CHP converted it from a B&W into a SMPV:

At least some of the ones from the 1989/1990 era did not have a whip on the 1/4 panel:

As Michael/mac88chp said, the latter year SMPVs were configured closer to regular B&W units than the previous years. But they are still very cool CHP Mustangs!

Rear deck lettering on the post-1990 SMPVs was not standard but could be ordered by the area offices if they wanted it per Motor Transport personnel I have talked to. Examples with it:
