By the way I am in on donating some $$$ to get the original cards...

Thanks for the Equipment Mike!

Matt

SparkSVT 02-18-2007 01:27 PM

I will inquire about the codes on the card when I contact him to ask for the ORIGINAL cards for the current car owners.. I do know that mine is Santa Cruz area from the code but I forget who told me this. It may have been the guy who provided the card.

No prob Matt...I'm glad it'll go to good use (and wasn't $400).

Great job so far...please keep us posted.

I would be up for donating, too.

Let me know.

I know that I am late to this party, but can I get the CHP guy to look up my car, 1982 E870548. I am willing to pay this great guy for his time.

Was anyone ever able to get the original cards?

Matt

Rhino 07-08-2007 11:33 PM

I think y'all may have tried this for me once, but if y'all can check for my 92 CHP (possible plate: E389136) that would be awesome! I think the last time I inquired, they would not find the card, but am hoping maybe it shows up? :) I would be up for donating as well if something turns up.

SparkSVT 07-10-2007 10:17 PM

I have to get back on this. I never did get my return call some time ago when I was doing this. I will call again and speak to the guy who I was talking to last time. I would like to see if I could get the original cards. Im not looking for money for my time on this deal..

Chris - sent you a PM on this.

Andy 07-13-2007 03:00 PM

OK......Here is what i know so far. Based on this CHP pdf file I found on the internet
http://www.chp.ca.gov/pdf/annex-c.pdf
the loc.code for my car was 146 which is Mt. Shasta so the car was used in that area.
Matt I can not see your Loc.code? but looking at the OTHER CARDS that i can see they
all appear to be Three digits and that corresponds to the CHP map.... also in the
EQUIPMENT Field...... the drawn box with the dot in the center says it's a slick top!
I think?
and I think if it has and X in that field it had a Scanner? I can not read the fields between
equipment and location code? If the originals show up it may be more clear?

I don't know how old this thread is, but i've got car 3788, an 86 mustang.....Is there any way I can have the guy look this up?? I've made calls to the chp, but no one knows what the hell an assignment card is, and I'm having no luck.

I had no luck with this project. Sorry.

Resurrecting This Thread! :-)

As some of you know, I recently received a PHOTO COPY of my car's CHP Assignment Card. I spoke with my contact at CHP Motor Transport today, and he is willing to dive into the cards to look for a specific Assignment Card belonging to a CHP Mustang. I had recently asked him to look for 4 cards belonging to other members, but sadly he was not able to locate those specific cards. So there is no guarantee that the card can be found after all this time. But he said in some cases he may be able to provide the original card to the owner!

So I will throw the offer out there - If you are interested in tracking down a photo copy of your CHP Assignment Card, shoot me a PM or post here, and I will pass it along to see if it can be found. You will need to include the entire number for your vehicle. In my case, my car was E408395. All six digits are required in order to track down a card.

It's hard to say how long he will be willing and able to do this for the SSP Community. But we'll try for as long as possible.

9/30/2009 Update

Just over 2 months ago, I sent a list of CHP unit numbers to my contact at the CHP, in the hope that he could find and copy the original Assignment Cards. Copies of the following cards were requested:

E834428 1974 Dodge ("historynw" on the CHP forum)
E870366 1982 Mustang (litsnsirn" on ORG)
E408445 1985 Mustang (a known SMPV, but car is MIA)
E413732 1986 Mustang ("1986CHPSSP" on ORG)
E432496 1988 Dodge Diplomat ("chpns1" on NET)
E888849 1991 CVPI ("Tallen" on ORG)
E881555 1993 Mustang ("SRT SSP" om ORG)

After returning from our vacation this past week, I rec'd in the mail THE ORIGINAL Assignment Cards for 4 CHP vehicles (one for mine and 3 from the above list). I scanned in the cards front and back, and will post them up for all to see.

28HopUp 08-30-2009 02:04 PM

CHP #E408395 1985 Mustang

First, here's the CHP Assignment Card for my car #8395 -
http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...d3e779bb24.jpg

http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...aa52b7c2ce.jpg

I edited out my VIN, but it is there on the card and matches the number on my car. You'll note that the unit number is listed that my car replaced, as well as the unit that replaced my car is also listed. Also, I was told that the equipment notation of a "dot inside the square indicates" a slicktop. My car had been wrecked, and it looks like the repair was made at the same time as it being repainted the Metallic Silver (see the deductible notation).

28HopUp 08-30-2009 02:08 PM

E413732 1986 Mustang

The second car is owned by 1986CHPSSP on ORG -

http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...d3e7750477.jpg
http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...aa55c56653.jpg

It appears as though this car was reassigned during it's time while in-service. The original location was erased.

28HopUp 08-30-2009 02:13 PM

E432496 1988 Dodge Diplomat

The third of four cards I rec'd was not for a Mustang, but was instead a 1988 Dodge Diplomat owned by chpns1 -
http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...d3e76e4802.jpg
http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...aa57f7fe8e.jpg

Given the sale price, I suspect that the car was sold without being repaired after the accident.

28HopUp 08-30-2009 02:22 PM

E408445 1985 Mustang

The final card in this installment is the one for SMPV #8445, which was an original B&W 1985 Mustang that the CHP repainted for the first SMPV's (Specially Marked Patrol Vehicles). Here's an in-service picture -

http://images27.fotki.com/v984/photo.../85SMPV-vi.jpg

Since I knew the entire number for this vehicle, I decided to see if the card could be found. Sure enough, the card has outlasted the vehicle (at least for now). CHP #8445 lived a VERY interesting life while in-service. Take a look -

http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...aa52b895af.jpg
http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...aa55c35c8a.jpg

I removed the VIN from the picture. The CHP certainly got their money's worth outa #8445!

ImEvil1 08-30-2009 02:37 PM

Those are great! Thanks for posting that up!

The one above with the 55MPH project notation is probably one of the cars marked with the alternate decals. That is too cool.

I wish he could locate my card. Sparks sent me a faxed copy of it, so I know it's still floating around, but I can't really read the copy.

28HopUp 08-30-2009 02:43 PM

I meant to comment that I will send the current owner their card if they PM their mailing addy.

The car on the card looks like an 86 and all but one of the pictures of the alternate marking cars that I have seen were 81 and 82 model year cars. That does make me curious.

28HopUp 08-31-2009 11:42 AM

I just mailed the card for the 88 Diplomat CHP #E432496 to its owner, chpns1.

I share your curiosity about that time frame. All that I've seen were Diplomats, never seen any photos of a Mustang with the markings associated with that federally funded 55 MPH program applied (aside from the '92 EVOC car with the rear seat delete panel marked with it), anybody here have any or seen them? Hard to say if that '86 was specially marked or not without more documentation, but anything is possible.

ImEvil1 08-31-2009 05:37 PM

Here's one from the "Alex Ginsburg Collection".

http://www.sspmustang.org/photos/smf_photo3ad.htm

mac88chp 08-31-2009 06:32 PM

Ah right, that '82. Meant to say a later model Mustang than the '81-'82 era. That one's not bad looking...sure wish there were more photos of that program's vehicles.

chpns1 09-03-2009 11:48 PM

Got the card in the mail today! Yes, the Dodge was wrecked and not fixed. Replaced some bent control arms, and it served me well as a daily driver for about 3 years.

Anyone know what the square with the A inside and the D to the right on the bottom of the card mean? It had a light bar, and I'm assuming the Motorola/CC1 equipment. No indication that it was converted to the Rangr setup, unless it was put into service late enough to have it originally. By 91, they all should have been converted.

Marc

28HopUp 08-03-2010 02:33 PM

I rec'd two more CHP Assignment Cards today. If you have asked me to have a search made for your card, and it's not listed below, then it was not found. (sorry guys!)

The first one is for E408419, which is the recently-surfaced 85 that is owned by RocketScience -

http://mustangforums.com/forum/membe...08419front.jpg

http://mustangforums.com/forum/membe...408419back.jpg

It is interesting to note that 8419 showed signs of an accident, but nothing is listed on the Assignment Card.

I'll create a new post for the other card.

28HopUp 08-03-2010 02:41 PM

The next card is for the '87 SSP owned by Va 5.0 (VIN blocked out on this one too) -

http://mustangforums.com/forum/membe...22920front.jpg

http://mustangforums.com/forum/membe...422920back.jpg

The original cards will be mailed to the owners once I get their address. It is interesting to note that having the cards creates as many questions as answers. Why are the cards either orange, white, or yellow? Does the color indicate something? What is the R.F. Color? What does "100B" mean in the upper right corner?

I would like to add that I spoke to my source about on-going requests for cards. He asked that I continue to be his single point of contact on requests for cards. The only exception would be if you are interested in buying CHP parts from him, in which case he will be happy to look for your card while gathering the parts you need (PM me for his #). So if you need your CHP Assignment Card, I am happy to serve as a middle-man (with no service charge of course!).

NoDrama43 08-03-2010 05:28 PM

I left Robert Read multiple messages regarding parts and my assignment card but he has not responded. As a result I don't refer anyone else to him.

ImEvil1 08-03-2010 07:44 PM

Cool stuff, Bill, and I'm glad you were able to get those. Can you ask him for some of the antenna-coupler boxes the next time you talk to him? I haven't talked to him in a few years.

Jim, he never was able to find my card, and I didn't want to bother him about the incorrect shotgun rack he sent me since he was having health problems. Guess he is still doing ok. Whoever "Sparks" was talking to sent him a photocopy of my card, so somebody had their hands on it at some point.

I spent a ton of money with him also and I know of four different people I sent to him that bought stuff too. I tried getting in touch with him about 6 months ago leaving messages for him at work and home. Maybe he was involved in health issues or did not get the messages, not sure. The shotgun rack I got from him was/is for a crown vic but I am planning on refabbing my own and using the parts off of it. Years ago he was very helpful, providing me with all the original paperwork from the mustang program. Last I heard he is a member over on .org so maybe he can be contacted there?

I have never been able to find my assignment card. Some day when I am in Sacramento I will stop in myself and see if I can get someone to look for it.

I'll just wait to hear back from Bill. The coupler box is the very last thing I need for the '82.

If you go, can you look for mine, too?
