Thank you for your understanding.... I am looking all over. I do want a SSP though. Something about the mystic of a car that was a limited usage car that I want.... I want to find an unmarked one preferably a black one and instal the black wheels with blacked out windows.. I am still working on the original one. I got him down a little more. We will see tommorow..

$500.00 It was a Government car stationed out of New York..No body holes or radio mounts. They used the cell phones instead which it still has on the rear window. I am supposed to pick it up on Friday.. Then the fun begins.... Oh wait its winter time so it may have to wait a few months. I have to get the original air filter assembly and plumbing... I think CJ Pony parts said they have it for $65.00... Then the exhaust, single key system, cell phone antenae, tinted windows, black rims, carpet cleaning, door plugs, etc...
AJ - Congrats on the SSP...please post up some pictures when you have an opportunity.
Congratulations on the new car. It sounds a bit like mine. No holes for mounting anything, anywhere. But I can only guess that mine was a government car. No records.
All I can say is thank you for everyones support in this soon to be fun project...I am looking forward to all of my endeavers with this car.. I want to especially thank John for all of the info that he had sent me for his car... I hope that it will also find a home that is fit such a beautiful example of one of Mustangs finest....

Keep in mind that the Single Key Locks were an Option not Standard Equipment and they Black wheels were no longer available as an Option.
Tom |
I know... The single key is not that big of a deal for me but I think the black wheels would look sharp on it.. I would keep the originals and I have an extra set of 10 hole wheels that maybe, if I can find a place, can powder coat them black and with the stainless center caps will look sharp.... I also have to address the intake and the exhaust is just a little loud. It has a BBK "X" pipe and exhaust... So I will start looking for stock parts. I am not drag racing it...
I love the Black Wheels too.
Isn that your SSP?? Black wheels, black paint?? Looks sharp! I am still interested in jpargos... I like the black but his blue one is very sharp and really needs nothing... I wonder how it would look with the black wheels... Do you have any pictures of yours??
I keep telling John I want that 91 back. I have a couple issues in the works so maybe it might happen....not really sure. I like it cause it is blue with blue interior and only has 40+k miles. If I end up with it it will just be a trailer queen like the rest of my SSP cars.
Glad you got the black car. it is nice also and I like the gt seat option the govt cars have. be real cool if there is a build sheet in it somewhere. Bernie has black wheels on his black FHP car and it is bada** looking. |
I have to ask you... Do you have a barn for all of those toys?? Do you have pictures of your fleet all restored?? And yes I would have to do the black wheels on it... Your '85 and '86 are sharp... With black wheels of course... I want to keep the originals 'cause I know it wouldn't be correct for show... But the black on black is stealthy and official looking...
Al, congrats on the car...best of luck! John

Here are a couple of pictures of my all-black 85 with painted 10-holes http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...d272073af0.jpg http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...ca801912f9.jpg I know the wheels are incorrect for a 4-eye, but I have them for three reasons:
I already swapped out those incorrect seats. The clapped out exhaust has been replaced. And yes, those rear tires are beefy - 255's |
That is really sharp.... I am still going back and forht about this car... They want $7500 and they were supposed to come down more and they didn't... It is clean... I just don't know what these cars are really worth...

That barn is my dream.
That truly is a dream.... I would call it home for my self... And the cars.... I like It!!! My girl would not see me for weeks.... Only for you know visits. And she would still have to pry me off the cars. That is fantastic.... Thats all I can say.
By the way the I did no pick the car up today... She is having a rear main seal leak issue... I told the seller either the price drops or the seal has to be repaired... If you want a premium price you have to have a premium product... By the way I want to thank you all for the help that you guys have given me... Both the positive and the negative opinions... Both have helped.

I wouldn't worry about the rear main too much....they all do that. It's a PITA job to fix it, though. As for the opinions...glad we helped....that's what we're here for. |
I know its not that big of a deal... I have dealt with it on some of my other 5.0 powered cars.... But I was annoyed so that is why I pushed it... I don't really mind some seapage but this puppy was leaking...
:happyspin: A waive of the rally towel for that car mansion.

I took my '84 LTD LX's engine apart twice because of the rear main..... You are right about that... But this one after 15 minutes of idling was dripping pretty good and that drives me crazy. I told them they could have at least cleaned up the bottom of the engine a little.... We will see what happens today. They are having it checked out. Then they have to discuss it with the owner of the car.
Well we didn't buy it... The oil pan and rear main are leaking and the seller will not repair it or come down... I feel the $7500 is too high considering what I would have to do to it. Door arm rests, center console, ash tray repairs, carpet, rear main, oil pan, lets not even start about the paint already peeling on the mouldings....I was willing to eat most of it but when I saw the oil dripping out and guys it wasn't seeping I drew the line. I have been watching and asking alot of people and everyone says its too much... His contention is "as is" He stated that he dropped the price from $8900 to $7500 and that was enough but what he doesn't understand is that $7500 was were he should have started ande then worked out a price.. My thoughts are I can buy a fully restored car for $9000 that only needs gas and a set of tags...
Now the search goes on for another acceptable car... |
AJ - I'm not aware of what car you're looking at, but it sounds like you made a good well thought out decision.
I have been doing alot of research over the past 3 weeks... With all of your help. And this guy thinks he has a gold mine with his car.... The problem isn't just cosmetic there were certain things I could fix myself that he should have before tyring to sell it.. But when it idles for 15 minutes and I saw the oil dripping onto the ground that was enough.. Now I can fix it and would hvae but this guy figyred that since he dropped from his aking price to $7500 that it was all he needed to do... I told the salesman that he needed to do better. It has a Maaco paint job that is already having issues and its an automatic and not that it really bothered me but his price was just too high... He should have started at about $7500 and came down to $6200-$6500... That is about the range that car is in and that is pushing it.... Here is the car:http://www.stradacars.com/webtemplate.aspx?iid=2479519

Sounds like you made the right call. The dealer will figure it out sooner or later.
Actually its the owner of the car... The dealer is selling it on consignment. The dealer already fiured it out since it has been sitting there for a month and I am the only one to show up and make a viable offer on it... No one and I mean no one has made an offer due to what the owner is looking for.. He told the salesman that I am dealing with that he could put it online and sell it for $8000 to $8500 with no problem. The saleman told him that he has a cash offer on the table for $7000 and he should take it and run since people are coming only to kick the tires and not showing cash. I feel bad for this sales guy he knows the guy is being greedy but he won't back down. I think he has too much in it or someone told him it i worth more then it really is... H thinks he has the golden nugget but when in fact it is fools gold. I really like the car but I couldn't look past the leak since I was willing to go a little higher to get her... I figured he would have at least fixed her and then I would buy her....
You'll find another one you really like as well and pretty soon this one will be a distant memory.
Al,
good choice. The dealer is trying to hit his lick and the owner is obviously trying to flip the car for a buck also. Just another reason not to buy from the guy that sells cars on a regular basis. I put a number somehwere from 5500 to 6000 on the car also. The MAGM squad didn't win this time and that is a good thing. congrats to you for having the patience to see the car for what it really is. |
This is true but disappointing... I thought I would be driving it home.... But only time will tell. I just saw a white one on Ebay that was a Utah State Police car with only 20,000 miles?? Unmarked with all of its garb in it... I think the guy buys and sells them by the sound of it... Ha too was a bit high. But I watched it and no one bid or offered anything for it... My search goes on... :-(
the white car on ebay was just recently sold by a flipper to a guy in North Carolina. He put emergency equipment in the car that was wrong for Utah but correct for NCHP, then tried to flip it himself. Guess it didn't work out so well.

I beleive it is a 1987... I was surprised to see only 20,000 miles. You are probobly right on the mileage or they only took it for coffee and donuts at the edge of the town it was stationed in... It ashame people want to rape others because of a cars heritage. I see the values slipping a little I guess it is due to the economy. Even the marked ones are dropping a little. About a year ago a small car lot in the town I live in was selling a smooth top (I think you call them, no light bar) and it was fairly clean with all of its markings from FHP. The guy wanted $12,500 for it. I didn't know much about them at that point I just looked at it and walked away. He sold it though I don't know for how much.....
All this talk about leaks makes me think that I got a real steal! For $3500 my only problems were a leaky heater core, locked up struts, flat A/C, dry rotted tires, and missing front sway bar bushings. Oh, and a trans that was missing a couple of bolts...
You did get a steal... And I was willing to give this guy $7250.00 for this car... He will not go down the extra $250.00 I was going to get the leak fixed myself... I am starting to think I will give John a call and buy his car it doesn't need anything. The one I am looking at is an ex government car from some branch and it has a $300.00 Maaco paint job on it that I will have to deal with.... As well as some interior issues and the oil leak.... So yes $3500 was a deal... I can't find any of those. Oh and by the way he originally wanted $8900. Someone told him it should sell for at least $8500.... Even the consignment guy did research and told him $5500- $6500
In this economy it costs more than $250 just to hang onto a car than to be flexible and reduce that much in order to make a sale. That is unless you are independently wealth or don't care if your car takes a long to time to sell.

http://69.64.79.206/imagehosting/27749a8207607649.jpg I paid slightly more than the purchase price for the body work, paint, interior, and CHP parts to have it look like this - http://www.mustangcollective.com/ima...d272011908.jpg I have yet to touch the drivetrain, which was "restored" at one point. So I would have been money ahead had I bought John's car. Still, I have ZERO regrets about my efforts to bring this car back to life. Hope you find a suitable car that you LOVE! |
Bill - I really like how your car turned out .
