The car is refreshingly clean under hood...
|
Looking AWESOME!!
|
Thanks for the pics, Bobby.
I am still searching for a new hood. If I find one locally, I will be-bop down I-95 & I-85 to drop it off at your place. :) I will give you a heads up if I am coming down. |

edit.....looking at the colors I think mine is a much brighter red....but you can have it if you want it. |
Thanks Jim! I may take you up on that if the one I found locally fizzles out. :)
|
I will be looking at a hood this weekend. The price is fine, but I want to make sure its condition is A-ok for Bobby. I already have a hood (on the car) that would require quite a few hours of shop time to repair, so I'd like to find one that won't need a lot of prep. If all looks good, then I will deliver it myself. Although it will be great to see Bobby again, I'd like to see firsthand the car that I bought at the end of October.
|
Did someone pull the AC off of it?
|
Yes. The A/C was long gone when Ryan had the car. I understand the motor has an A/C bypass and pulley kit on it. So I will be looking for the correct parts this winter to put A/C back in the car. I will probably replace the heater core too, since it is bypassed as well.

Roger.

Speaking of heater cores, does anyone have a recommendation?
|
I found this one on the FMR website -
http://www.foxresto.com/1979-93-Must...-p/4479003.htm That's what I plan to order... |
Can you still get Ford OEM? I hear the newer ones don't hold up as well as factory. And when you are putting in THAT much time to install a new one...kinda only want to do it once. :)
|
That's what I was thinking. I'd like to go oem with that. Because once it's in, I don't want it to fail.
|
I just put in a core in a 86 GT vert last week. They bought the core at Auto Zone and I cringed until I opened the box and saw it was a brass core and had the inlet restriction pre-installed. I usually recommend OEM but I was impressed by this new unit.
|
Thanks

I bought NOS from Late Model Restoration, although it was a year ago. Not sure if they are still selling them now.

I got to see two .NET members this week! I loaded a few parts in my F150 on Monday and drove to Ohio to see Jim/NoDrama. I enjoyed a quick dinner with them (THANK YOU!), and we dashed over to the barn to unload and load parts. I didn't hang around long, because I needed to be in Georgia to meet Bobby the next morning. After overnighting in Knoxville, I got to the body shop around mid-morning. I left him with two used hoods which should require less prep work than the one on the car currently. It was great to see Bobby again, albeit the visit was a short one.
I FINALLY got to see my new SSP! The car is coming along nicely, and it should be completed fairly soon. Attached are a few photos, including one of the nasty spray-foam under the decklid (a previous owner was trying to silence a rattle caused by the boom box in the trunk). Gentlemen, thank you for your time and assistance. This car is another example of SSP hobbyists coming together to help get an SSP back into circulation. ;) |

I also picked up the box of agency paraphernalia. Included were blank copies of the following items:
I also received the two in-service photos of a red traffic unit. |
Good to see you again bill. Get that car ready for the Niagra show. 👍🏻
|
Looks good! :2thumbs:
Way to mess up a decklid PO! |
The car is looking good , Bill !!!
|
It was good to see you again also Bill !!!
I would like to have had more time to visit as well. She is getting close... |
That Bad Boy Looks SHARP!!!
|
Nice job...and you managed to escape from Ohio! Looks good, Bill (and Bobby).
|
In Ohio en route to Jim's I had near white-out conditions due to snow. The interstate started to load up but it quickly melted. By the time I got to Georgia the truck was looking pretty bad because of the road salt. I got that all washed off once I returned home.
I spoke with the "museum" this morning, and asked about my radio equipment and magnetic markings. I think it slipped their minds to ship it all to me, but I was assured that the box would go out to me this week. I will be happy once all of these items are received from them. |
good thing you didn't come today.......snow chaos......

Well, the attached photo proves that Bobby can paint a car in a color that is not used by the GSP! :p
The parts shown only have the base coat applied - no clear yet. The hood in the background is the one that I picked up from Jim. That is all for now. ;) |

So I now have a FedEx tracking number for the box of radio equipment and magnetic markings from the museum. FINALLY! I will be very relieved once that arrives.

Finally! The equipment and markings arrived this week from the "museum". The only item that is MIA is the unit number "1310" magnet, which was not the correct size anyway. I have a buddy who owns a sign shop, and I will have him recreate the unit number along with the scroll work under the side molding.
I think I will need to lean on Rhino to figure out the proper placement of the radio equipment. ;) |
I can definitely walk you through the placement of the gear when ready.
As for the 1310 Numbers on the driver side fender...that's not a magnet. Those were Hillman mailbox decals (roughly 1-1.5 inch rectangle style) and were permanently placed on the fender. That was the only thing I left on the car. The rest of the magnets were stowed for takeoff. You did get the light bar, too, yes? (even if you don't ever use it again, would be good to have). |
excellent news Bill.

Thanks for the information and messages. Your willingness to help me with the equipment placement is GREATLY appreciated! I assumed that the 1310 numbers were on a magnet because they were not shown on the photos by the museum. Either they removed them, or perhaps Buddy did prior to selling the car to them. I did not purchase the lightbar from the museum. They wanted a lot of coin for it, and shipping would have been expensive (remember they sold and shipped the car without any of the equipment, which I purchased separately). I plan to equip the car with the correct lighting as was used on the blue unmarked PCSD car. My car will honor the story about one of their red traffic units having its lightbar stolen while in-service, which they turned into a slicktop. My PCSD may not be the same car, but it makes for a great story and honors the agency. |
