John T.- we were getting updates on your situation Friday and Saturday and were all pulling for you! Not to worry, Morro Bay will be here before you know it.
Well another Ripon is in the books and this one was a record setter for participants in total and for SSP Mustangs also. We had 5 restored CHP, 1 restored NHP, 2 in-progress CHP and 1 daily driver CHP for a total of 9 SSPs. Besides John T. and his '89 CHP, there was also a restored '92 CHP (Jim Young's ex) that ended up MIA due to a mechanical breakdown on show day. Awards in the Restored Special Service Pursuit Vehicle - Mustang and Camaro class were: 1st place - John S., 1992 CHP Mustang 2nd place - Michael C, 1988 CHP Mustang 3rd place - Gary (?), 1984 CHP Mustang It was a Mustang and CHP sweep this year! Also, the lone SSP in the daily driver class, a '93 CHP, took 1st place. It was a great showing for all the Mustangs and everyone had a ball. As a great bonus, an SSP was also featured on this year's show plaque! http://images41.fotki.com/v209/photo...SC04706-vi.jpg That's Mike D.'s '86 - it was also a no-show, he brought one of his other cars...gotta find a way to get him to get it over to the show next time! It is also my pleasure to report that the infamous '88 CHP EVOC unit so often discussed here has landed into the capable hands of member "Kevin" who showed it on Saturday. Among other things, he has replaced the incorrect seats, stripped the doors to remove the door mouldings, cruddy decals and multiple layers of paint and get it re-decaled but most importantly he wiped off all misc. BS decals and those stupid roof autographs! http://images53.fotki.com/v1459/phot...SC04657-vi.jpg http://images19.fotki.com/v1612/phot...SC04589-vi.jpg http://images18.fotki.com/v437/photo...SC04662-vi.jpg Glad to have this one back in the hobby in more correct and presentable form! :) All my photos here: http://public.fotki.com/Classicchp/c...ergency-veh-2/ |

Hey Ryan
That awesome My car was if I remember correctly 2914 but I'll have go looki it up . Interesting story: Car Craft contacted me about doing a story re buying a used patrol car since was the PR guy at the time. I said sure. In the back lot getting stripped and ready for sale was the unit Still black and white no light bar. They took some photos and put it in the article Couple weeks later I ended buying it with plans to restore it. It was stolen from in front of my house a month or two later. If you send me an address I'll mail you out a 16 x20 pic if your car A publicity shot. I was bringing them and mustang posters to Ripon with me when I broke down I may still have a copy of the article. We only had 20 if the Camaros It was a study to see if they should replace the Mustang As you know the Camaro was redesigned the next year do the study was ended. Most of the cars were reassigned as Public Affairs cars. JohnT |
Thanks to all who posted pictures of the show. It looks like a great event that I hope to attend one day. And I would also like to congratulate/thank Kevin for rescuing that 88 EVOC Mustang, and making it so much better.

Great seeing everyone at the show !
It was the best show I have been to so far, only my 3rd time and 2nd with an entry. Sorry about John T's car problems. Great to see Eric's car there this year ! Some great pics ! I threw a few to add to the list. I'm not as good of a photographer as Mike or Sam is, but hope they are of interest. I have a couple video's I took on my GoPro, but I can not figure out how to convert it to ad to You Tube or on here. One was of the Code 3 parade. Guess I need to find an 8 year old to figure it out lol Great weather, it was an awesome 2 days ! John |
Don't be so modest John, those are great pics too! Thanks for posting them! ;)

Fred & Stephanie,
Great having you there ! Glad you made it ! Can't tell you how much Mike helped me out the first 2 shows I was there. First show I was there to check it out, just purchased my mustang and hadn't done a thing with it. I was all over Mike's SSP lol Measuring things, taking pictures etc. Asking all kinds of questions LOLOL Seeing his car in person after seeing it all over the web in various searches. And it is just as beautiful and awesome in person as the photos are ! ( thanks for all of your patience Mike by the way ) lol Plus calling, emailing him. I am sure he was thinking, this guy is a pain in my..... lol But I made it up to him by getting him and his SSP to the CHP Academy and some hot laps around the EVOC track at Retiree's day Sept. 2012 !! Second Ripon show I towed my SSP down for the show. I had just finished it. Only the red light worked. Now everything works. lol I love it, LOTS of fun. So we all help one another. Even on this SSP site, everyone is here to help and everyone here needs help now and then. Looking forward to seeing your car completed Fred ! John |

Good to see all the Great Postings and Photos shared here. This is one of the joys that makes this hobby FUN! The Ripon Show was a very fun event and a great day tomeet up with friends Mike C, John from Oregon, John, Gary, Matt, Robert R and meet new ones. We all got the pleasure to meet Fred and Stephanie who participated in their first Ripon Show.
FRIDAY: I was expierencing some unexpected shifting issues on Friday Night Cruise night that caused some of the vehicles behind me to fall behind a separate from the rest of the convoy of Emergency Vehicles and one of those vehicles was Fred in his Mustang. I take full resposponsibilty for accidently taking some of vehicles approximatly (6 to 8 ) off the routed course by accidently taking a wrong turn from the route. Then all of a sudden "BAM", I am dead in the water the transmission is not wanting to shift in to first, second or even third gear. I could find reverse but catching up with everyone for the parade in reverse was an option and was not going be fun in the least. I think Fred kinda knew I was in trouble at the beginning and stayed posistioned behind my car like a true soldier. Now by this time frustration was quickly beginning to set in. All my failed attempts to get the car into any gear made me believe clutch failure. The four letterd words I had brewing in my brain along with some new ones I made up were about too surface when I looked in my side mirror and noticed Fred exited his car and when he walked up he asked me if there was something wrong. Once I told him what was going on with my vehicle he advised me to press the clutch pedal in for 9 to 10 seconds to reset the clutch. IT WORKED!!! I was able to find first, second, third and so on. Thank You again Fred! Welcome to the Forum and to this fun and addictive Hobby. SUNDAY: Well after a 4 hour drive trailering the Mustang from Ripon back to Bakersfield we made it back home at home at 3 pm on Sunday Our day wasnt over and the weekend was far from complete even though we still had alot to do such as unloading everything from the truck, unstrapping the Mustang from the trailer and all that other business. I had an alternate plan on my agenda and that was to park the truck and trailer in front of the house and jump in a more speedier vehicle "The Wifes Camaro" and take a road trip to Gorman to see John T and his Wife where they spent their weekend at due to clutch and cable problems on the Mustang. Its always a pleasure to spend time with John and Mercy. Although John T and Mercy were unable to attend the event I took him a event Tee Shirt and some other goodies. We are planning for the next show April 2014 at Morro Bay. Here are some photos for everyone to enjoy. This first photo is of Steve O he was there! It was a pleasure to spend some time with him at the show. |
