Getting her ready to possibly go back home... The roof is fresh and looks great but the blue was 8 out of 10 so I'm redoing the blue. Bonafide had installed a 5spd and now it's been converted back to automatic as well. Retired Trooper Ricky Wilcox 799 ( the assigned Trooper) wants to buy it to show. He's been a great help and become a friend to me, so this may very well happen...

That's great! :D But, once #9222 is gone you will be without an '89. I guess you'll have to find another... ;)

kapracing 07-07-2016 04:52 PM

Maybe I already have... Lol Or I may down size and keep just my 83; 88 "wrecked in service"; 92 LoJack & 90 hometown GSP's ;) That would leave me with one of each variation and my 90 to play with... Lots of decisions to be made... At least by keeping those I could always regathering the missing years later if I wanted too...

Time will tell...

Oh man the chance that a GSP SSP could be available????Keep us all posted....

28HopUp 07-08-2016 04:22 PM

I have a feeling that Bobby will only part with the car if retired Trooper Wilcox is the buyer...

kapracing 07-08-2016 05:27 PM

Bitter sweet day for myself and 9222, (which has been the "Shop Mascot" for a while now). Everyday (for well over a year now), I pull it out by the road in front of Candy Apple Custom.

9222's history began as a new replacement Mustang for Trooper 799 Trooper Wilcox. He was issued a new 1988 Mustang 8292 in which was involved in a "no Fault" accident March 5th 1990. At that time (after a board of inquiry) Trooper Wilcox was issued a new 1989 Mustang 9222. He Patrolled it until transferring to Aviation. 9222 had around 65k miles at that time and was reissued to Trooper 277 Gene Cochrane until it was decommissioned. After being sold it was reportedly bought by Mathis Mustangs and raced for a brief period. Then put back mostly original and sold. It passed through a couple hands before making it to me. The roof had fresh paint but the rest needed reone. I have just refinished the remainder.

I met Trooper Wilcox (whom has been very helpful with info and contacts) not long after aquiring 9222. As time passed he began to show interest in having one of his old Mustangs back. Now after all this time and getting her into it's current position, Ricky will be picking up 9222 tomorrow. His plans are to enter it locally in both car shows and cruise in's. I'm hoping we can both attend the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival this fall with both 9222 and 2217...

This is my only 89 and I'm seriously considering downsizing to just four GSP's... The 83 (3083); 88 (8292); a 92 (haven't decided which one yet lol) and my 90 (0196) which is my first GSP and the local car that got the SSP bug started for me...

I do know of another 89 GSP "IF" I change my mind lol. But...

The logistics of being able to show all of them once done is a bit of a stretch, plus storage is another matter ( I do not wanna have to build a "Garage ma-hall" LOL). And I am about to begin building a 67 Fastback which is both expensive and time consuming itself...

At least I know 9222 will be just as cared for as it is now...

p.s. Trooper Wilcox hates the black wheels... His only deviation from stock he requested...

I know it has to be hard to let any of them go, but there is no more appropriate place for this one than in his garage.

The story of Trooper Wilcox now buying the restored GSP Mustang he drove while in-service is the stuff of magazine features. It would be great publicity for our hobby, too. Good job, Bobby! It's going to a very deserving new owner.

9222 Returning back to retired Trooper Ricky Wilcox 799....

Ricky is the first GSP Trooper to actually own the very Mustang assigned to him in service...

Was a bitter sweet day for me though. Ricky was extremely happy and I for him. She's in great hands now ( back home so to speak) and I know Ricky will love and take
great care of her from here on out....

28HopUp 08-11-2016 04:07 PM

That is AWESOME, Bobby!

MOstang 08-11-2016 07:34 PM

Nice job!

Great to see that....what a story!
