I love when things like this happens...
A young man stops in the shop today to get a quote on repairing the cowl on his 89 Mustang coupe. He had just picked it up from south GA and was having it tuned and was starting to get ready to make it more appealing to the eyes. After looking the damage over I grabbed the Vin # to start the estimate. The vin # Caught my attention so I looked it up in our Vin Project... There it was a 1989 FHP. I asked if he knew what it was and he replied that he was told it was a 4cly conversion car... When I showed him his car in the Vin Project and that it was a FHP he was super excited !!! He now plans to repaint her back in the black and tan and slowly restore it back... It is a good feeling to see a young person get so excited and hooked on our beloved SSP's... Hopefully he'll be joining up soon... |
Very cool, Bobby!

For anyone who thinks that SSP parts are expensive -

Can't save them all -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang...m=141694988832 Jonathon told me about this one prior to the close of the auction. It is a Delaware SSP (the cars were originally white that the DSP repainted different colors for unmarked traffic use). I spoke with the seller. The car has an open Delaware title without notation of it ever having a salvage title. According to the seller, there is rust in the rear floorboard, up in the passenger front toe area, and some rust starting in a shock tower. I never told the seller of its history. |
Cool find!

I know, Mike. If I had my 85s sold, I may have gotten this one. The AutoChecks for that batch of VINs do not indicate that many of them have survived. With DSP only ordering 9 or 10 SSPs for just that one year, there won't be another Delaware SSP turning up any time soon. Like I said, I cannot save 'em all.
