1993 Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office

1 Attachment(s)
Bobby bird-dogged a guy on FB to post up photos of his wrecked 1993 Calypso Green SSP. It turns out the car belonged to Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office. Marcos had sent me a photo last year of the VIN label in the USB drive full of pics, but now we have a picture of the buck tags to confirm it as a SSP -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info182331.htm

It is in a group of 10 consecutive VINs, with this one being the first SSP identified. :)
I'm not sure what the new owner has planned for it. :headscratch:

FoxChassis 02-25-2015 08:24 PM

Florida title records for that group of 10...

1FACP40E0PF182324 - "POLICE" branding
1FACP40E2PF182325 - "POLICE" branding
1FACP40E4PF182326 - no record
1FACP40E6PF182327 - no record
1FACP40E8PF182328 - no record
1FACP40EXPF182329 - no record

Good deal Bill,
The new owner has mentioned trying to repair it:2thumbs:

Good to hear, Bobby! :)

Here's one sent into us by Jonathon, which he found on CL -

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/4909366813.html

Attached is a PDF copy of the listing for PF194596. We have in our "Very Pending" some photos of PF194594, which had been sent in last year by Marcos. PF194594 lacks SSP documentation, so it has not been included in the VIN Project yet. But the car sent in by Jonathon shows the SSP manual, so it is 99% likely to be a SSP -

'Nice team effort! :D

Updated a 1988 GSP page

Booby forwarded along some pictures taken by Gregg a while back of a 1988 GSP which was already in our Project. The new photos were added at the top of its page -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info225758.htm

Thank you, Gentlemen! :)

28HopUp 03-08-2015 10:56 AM

We now have 2 Jefferson County SSPs

Our new member, popostang, sent over some pictures of his new SSP, a 1987 Jefferson County car. Here is the new page for this SSP -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info230968.htm

...and here is the page for the next sequential VIN in that batch of two cars that we had in our Project (which is also a Jefferson County car) -

The seller of this 1988 Blue Cross / Blue Shield (OSP-ordered) car...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=5952

...sent me the Special Equipment Parts List he has as part of the documentation on the car. It turns out that there were 59 SSP Mustangs ordered under that DSO, where some went to Saleen, some went to the OSP, and some were sold retail. The numbers as I understand them do not total up to 59 units, so I wonder where the other cars ended up?

FoxChassis 03-16-2015 11:03 PM

If you take away the first ten in the consecutive group that 74-0005 is in, that leaves 59. The first of those 59 is the first Saleen, and while we don't know what that DSO is we do know that some of the other Saleens are 74-0005, and the 59th is also 74-0005. So could the 59 be from that first Saleen all the way through the very last in that group of 69?

28HopUp 03-17-2015 09:31 AM

Given the circumstances, I think that's a fair assertion to make. I think we have enough to claim that the last 59 cars in that batch are all DSO #74-0005. Or do you think we should order a Marti Report for that first Saleen VIN just to be safe?

28HopUp 03-17-2015 09:56 AM

At a minimum, I think it is safe to say that the VINs in between JF172220 and JF172275 are all part of DSO #74-0005. Those two VINs are confirmed as being in that DSO, so the Special Equipment Parts List can be used to confirm the cars in between. Here is a page I made using that information -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info172265.htm

I worded the header that way (Agency Usage is Unconfirmed) since we do not know whether it was used in-service or not. Then there is a notation under the picture. Does that page look OK?

FoxChassis 03-17-2015 12:37 PM

The first SSP Saleen (JF172217) is 88-0313.

http://saleenforums.soec.org/showpos...96&postcount=2

You could ask .NET member "88-0313" for an image of the buck tag. ;)

FoxChassis 03-17-2015 12:50 PM

Out of those 59 produced under DSO 74-0005, do we know for certain (or could we narrow it down?) which VINs were accepted and used by the OSP? Just because some of these 59 DSO buck tag that we have seen say "OREGON" on it does not mean it was actually accepted and used by the OSP. (It is likely that all 59 say "OREGON".)

I suspect that they all say "OREGON" on the buck tags. There is no current way to determine which VINs went to the OSP, which is why we would have to mark the pages as "Agency Usage is Unconfirmed".

FoxChassis 03-17-2015 01:27 PM

Some do say "Oregon State Police" on the main page and on their individual pages, but has that been verified?

JF172236
JF172240
JF172264
JF172270

And then one more that says it on the main page but the individual page says "may be a never used in-service vehicle".

JF172275

28HopUp 03-18-2015 12:37 PM

As I recall, JF172275 was a recent addition where we were not certain that it was used by the OSP, but there were signs that it may have been in-service at one time. That could also mean that the car was used by some other agency or company, as we saw with the City of Florence SSP or the Blue Cross / Blue Shield SSP in this same batch of VINs.

28HopUp 03-18-2015 03:35 PM

Just a quick comment. This past Monday marks the 4th anniversary of this thread and VIN Project. It's been a great deal of effort by many people, and we all have learned a lot about these cars. Thanks to everyone who has contributed! We currently have 3,167 SSP confirmed so far, and we hope that we can continue this success in the future. Documentation will only get harder to locate, but we will keep searching.

Thanks again, everyone!!! :D

Thanks Bobby. I am jammed up at work, and this will be a busy weekend for us. I will get this one (and the other photos added) next week.

Here is the new page on Perm #9243 -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info262061.htm

Bobby, what is your understanding in terms of including the Trooper's name with the cars? In this case, I only listed his last name, in an effort to somewhat protect his identify on the internet. Having a Trooper's name matched up to a SSP is great information, but does only listing their last name go far enough to protect a Trooper's identify, in everyone's opinion? Another option would be to also list the first letter of their first name. Thoughts?

I am working closely with GSP on collecting this info (I now have all info on 1983-1992 every SSP GSP ordered). Everyone involved is really excited about this project. I do not foresee a issue as all the troopers I've encountered are very proud to have driven a Mustang... This info will be published else where also for the record. But I'd vote first initial last name for arguments sake...

28HopUp 04-17-2015 09:28 AM

Thanks to Bobby's hard work, add'l GSP information is starting to come in. Using the data obtained by Bobby, we created an Excel sheet to organize the information. To start, we grabbed a screenshot of the 1992 information, and have created the following page for one of the 1992 GSP Mustangs using the info we now have available -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info176477.htm

Nice job, Bobby!

28HopUp 04-22-2015 09:52 AM

Thanks Bill !

28HopUp 04-28-2015 03:34 PM

You're welcome, Bobby! :)

I am amazed that this thread is now 100 pages long (depending upon your user settings, of course!). On other car forums, threads of this size are usually fluff and other useless crud. This thread is VERY MUCH tech related, and demonstrates our focus on preserving these cars.

EDIT: So who is going to be post #1000??? :)

dcompson 04-28-2015 10:19 PM

I'll post 1000, just to say thank you. Thanks bill and all the others who contributed to this work in progress.
