Whoa! 111906 is just 2 VIN #'s before mine! And it's painted all white! With no spotlights! Mine does not have holes for spotlights! So...mine could have been used painted all grey? That's what color is under the hood and trunk lid. Grey is the color that covered up the B&W. And mine could have had the plate number 895311 or 895312? I like... :-)

Oh, forget E895311. I see that VIN #111911 has that plate...

93chipper 10-17-2012 10:22 PM

it can also be a 88 plate because they had 2 different prefixes in 93 they had a 88 plate and a 89 plate and 5312 was smogged in 99,98 and 96

Here is an interesting one, where the efforts of our group come together to verify a car. Using Aaron's method to verify cars through the CA smog site, in-service pictures from 1996 by Michael/mac88chp, and a coming out of service picture from Sam/MustangKid, we now have another car locked up in our project:

:D

it looks to be chp ordered WAY more than 150 ssps for 1993 my plate numbers are at 170 and counting and it does not count some units i cannot find

28HopUp 10-18-2012 07:37 PM

Aaron, our VIN Project supports your assertion that the CHP ordered more than the reported 150 SSPs in 1993. That year, SSPs were ordered by the CHP under two DSO numbers: 72-0009; and 72-0202. If we use the information in the VIN Project and only look at SSPs with the DSOs confirmed, we can determine the highest and lowest VINs in each batch, as follows:

DSO 72-0009
. . 112014 (highest VIN so far)
. - 111876 (lowest VIN so far)
. . . .139 units *

DSO 72-0202
. . 189153 (highest VIN so far)
. - 189093 (lowest VIN so far)
. . . . 61 units *

And if you look at the 1993 page, you will see that we have many other CHP Mustangs confirmed via smog reports to extend the range of VINs even further. So you are correct, Aaron.

* - When you count the VINs and include the lower and higher cars each time, the totals are bumped 1 more than the math would indicate.

93chipper 10-18-2012 07:42 PM

the 60 that we are just finding out are looking to be alot of the 88 plates and i found that unit that you have the door pic on the vin registry of being E881546

Toshi, did you ever notice the following picture posted up in the Motor Transport thread?

Is the gray Mustang the same shade as your repaint? The above car has tinted windows, and no whip antenna on the 1/4 panel.

It also has a deck lid "LX" emblem...those were deleted on the Mustang orders. I suspect that car may be an old patrol unit that was converted to an undercover unit. Those were easy to spot in the Motor Transport sale lot. Besides the big stereos and tints added, they had little things like that done to them to help make them look like convincing "civilian" vehicles.

Thanks for the info, Michael. That may be helpful to Toshi.

Aaron sent me 70 more smog matches - WOW! That must have taken a large chunk of time to go through. We will grab screenshots of those and add them in the next week or so to the project. There are several SSPs that I found to be particularly interesting because we have in-service pictures of them -
