Also, in that batch of 170 CHPs, the first 85 had FY (Beige cloth) trim and the second 85 had FG (Medium Grey cloth) trim. I wonder what the small batch of five had for trim. I am also curious as to why those five were ordered separately and what the CHP used them for.

Mick, we need to add those 5 VINs to our project. Can you shoot me the complete VINs and any add'l documentation about those cars? I will add them to the project. :)

Bill:

I made a typo on the CUN. Instead of 219944-219948 I meant to type 229944-229948. I don't have any additional info other than what is already on each of those pages.

Certainly could be it. CHP wouldn't park sale cars in the main lot after they were painted. Probably was used as an undercover, or travel car. Maybe was turned into a commander car?

Does your car have the tell tale CHP mounting holes in various locations?

Interesting how many cars at MT have inservice pictures to attach to them. I'd love to track down a couple of those cars...

I'm assuming you are speaking to me...

My car has no holes what so ever. None in the A-pillar, interior plastic, package tray, roof, or quarter panel. I believe it has an reproduction front bumper as it does not have the 'MUSTANG' text. So if it had any holes in the original, we'll never know.

When they repainted before sale, did they typically paint the undersides of the hood and trunk? Because they just left it all closed up when they painted the Reef Blue, except for they painted the door jams and inside of the doors, too.

Thanks to Aaron, we have added a few more 1993 CHP Mustangs to the project. The new additions start at 189075, as seen here on the 1993 page -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/93VIN.html

Pay attention to 189101, 189132, 189135, 189146, 189171, and 189212 which are the cars posted a couple of pages back where we have now matched in-service pictures to specific VINs using the CA smog site. I have 49 more cars to add using the smog information provided by Aaron, which I will get to as time allows. :)

All of Aaron's matches have been listed (thanks again!). In addition, I did a random SSP search and found a for-sale listing for a 1993 SSP that supposedly was originally ordered by Clayton County Georgia. Thankfully, the ad included a picture of the Buck Tags -

Just two cars later is the never-in-service Mesquite, Texas SSP, which are both part of a 14-car batch of VINs.

:)

Yesterday I talked to the owner of "never-in-service Mesquite, Texas SSP" here in MN and he has put 4k miles on the car this year (now 5k total).

Nice to hear that he is enjoying the car!

Mick aka FoxChassis just provided us with a bunch of the CA smog matches for some 1992 CHP Mustangs, which we just put into the VIN Project:
