And Mick this one has the two canisters also...

It seems a shame to use this one as a donor car but its absolutely a perfect candidate... Plus Robby says he'll probably make a little street car out of the body latter on :-)

Awesome find...congrats....

Is that DSO only two digits, and is it 21? Can you make out the last four characters of the TR code (4____) on the door tag, and the last digit of the rotations number (025_) on the buck tag? Thanks for posting those tags. I have already added them to the database.

I'll be picking up car this weekend just went by and snapped a few pics. Not sure on DSO it is 21 but can't make out if its more. My first impression was the 21 seemed a bit further to the left than regular two digit DSO's. I'll check it out better once I pick it up. The people I bought it from bought it new and I think they ordered it the way they wanted so its possible it could be a 6 digit DSO?

Would have had to been built with non-production options or paint and or a "fleet" (bulk) order to have a six digit DSO. Since four eyed Mustangs mostly did not have options grouped together, they could be ordered any which way you liked. There were some instances where when one option was ordered another item that was normally optional was required or included. For example, when a T-roof was ordered tinted glass (side and rear) was required.

yeah, I wouldn't pull that black '83 apart just yet. Those '83 5.0 coupes are extremely rare in any form. You could still find an '83 GT, which would be super easy, to pull the driveline from.

Well I do understand and even agree to a certain degree. But this is not my car it's my good friend and he's donating the running gear and keeping the body. I'd be hard pressed to turn it down. I know the black 83's rare but not as rare as the GSP and its not like he's gonna scrap it or anything. He's putting it up for a future project. It's kind like taking two SSP's to make one. We wanna save them both but can't always do that.

I removed the moldy carpet when I first got it. I do remember it having a console, and you can see interval wipers in this pic. Not sure about tilt or tinted windows. I will let you know though.

Wow, that's awesome!!

Wish it was that easy on the bama car....looks like I'm going to have to go down to the auto shop and search through packed up folders in a building to find out who drove it and where.

Might this be done for all 10 VINs in that consecutive group? :D

Memories

I had a GL hatchback back in the day. That interior shot brings back memories. I have no pictures of the interior of my old 'stang.

I wish the steering wheel in the pic of the donor car was in better shape. I'll be needing one...

Well after recently finding my 88GSP's unit # hidden in under a decal on the core support I thought I'd try my luck on the 83.

At first I was thinking this decal could be of SSP verity...
Says

WARNING
HIGH PRO???? OUTPUT

Well not knowing if it was SSP or not I carefully peeled it back and this is what I found...

It's hard to see in pics and I do not have paint shop on my IPAD. But it is
083 . The first # which would have been a 3 for 1983 year was not protected by decal and has apparently worn off. So I believe my unit # is 3083...

nighthawk756 07-24-2013 10:28 PM

Talk about luck....holy cow Bobby....I never would've thought you'd be able to find one on this car.

That's fantastic!! Congrats!!

For what it's worth I didn't think I would either. You shoulda seen my face when I peeled that decal up and saw those #'s :-)

Very cool, Bobby! I agree that your unit number is most likely #8083. I used two of the pictures you emailed to me and modified your SSP's page in our Project -

Well I've got a new contact and have been told all 10 of the GSP's were NOT equipped the same. The Atlanta cars were better equipped with the new "State of the art" whelen dash strobes and rear decks. The smaller posts were not (hence the odd looking under bumper lights).

Well Brad,
I do like the look of no lights. But it does look like mine had SOMETHING there... Until I find out I may just leave them off as that would be more correct than the wrong lights... Who knows this could even be my contacts old car??? Hopefully he can find his old unit #'s...

Yea I'm diffinately digging the cleaner look of the Atlanta car! I'm so hoping this turns out to be my car:-) It's looking like it very well could be... With the dash light holes in it...

Made my rounds to North ; East and South Atlanta Pull-a-Parts. Scored a pair of mirrors; pair of drip rail mouldings; rear window mouldings; quarter glass mouldings; pair of black rocker mouldings; most of the body mouldings & a radio wood grain trim! Several of the hard to find peices for the 83 :-)

Woohoo!! Jackpot!! Gotta love a good day buying needed parts!!

kapracing 07-29-2013 09:50 PM

Got my issue of Popular Mechanics July 1984 today. The bumper lights on the 83's definitely had square housings and round bulbs. They appear to be recessed into housing and bulb possibly seems to be extended.

Update on the 83.
Not much but I have discovered the lights used were YANKEE lights and I did find a pair on elightbars. They were the chrome versions though so I had them sand blasted and powder coated satin black.

Only other thing is I found out it's Perm # is 3083 and it was driven by retired Captain Carlton Stallings badge # 99.

I'm getting really close to finishing my 92 and I will be tackling this one next...

nighthawk756 10-27-2013 01:51 PM
