If Henry got it, it was mangled.

ChrisL 02-05-2012 10:18 AM

I imagine it is, but given it's never been registered again it was probably totaled out, and if that's the case, there's a reasonable chance it's out at Henry's :)

This VIN is in a group of 18. This SSP is for sale in MN right now and was thought to have been a never in-service TX car (see ad link below). Add to VIN project?

You are right. I was just passing along what was in the ad (the link does not work now, as the domain has expired). I do remember talking to the owner before this one at a local car show about 6 years ago and he said he thought the car was originally from Georgia.

Thanks for posting it, but we are only putting verified cars in there. However, now that we have it, it may lead to identification of the agency/order in the future.

28HopUp 02-12-2012 01:40 PM

Bob, thanks for the VIN picture for that car! :)

To expand on this a bit, we have partial verification on over 50 more cars that are not listed with active links in the VIN Project. These are cars which in terms of documentation may only be a picture of a VIN sticker having a 6-digit DSO. But civilian cars could be ordered with a 6-digit DSO, so we need more information before calling a specific car a SSP. We are holding onto the information for these pending cars to see if we can find add'l documentation at a later date.

And I just added a link to our VIN Project in the first post of this thread :)

28HopUp 02-15-2012 02:08 PM

Here is an example of the Standard Marti Reports being helpful to our research. The following car had weak documentation:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info225776.htm

So by getting the Standard Marti Report for the preceeding car in the consecutive VIN range...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info225775.htm

...we were able to confirm both as SSP's because they have the same DSO. Pretty cool IMO! :D

28HopUp 02-25-2012 12:29 PM

We now have solid documentation for over 200 SSP's in our little project. Although we know the VIN range for the 1982 SSP's, our current total only includes those SSP's where we have photos which document those cars in that CUN range.

Over the next couple of weeks, with help from Marti Auto Works and submissions by our members, we should be able to document another 30 or so SSP's.

:D

GREAT WORK BILL! Your work on this project is AWSOME!:D

28HopUp 03-07-2012 11:22 AM

Somebody recently asked me what the breakdown was by year in terms of documented SSP's for our VIN Project. So here is the list by year as it stands today, which includes a few cars we need to create pages for:

.1982. 15
.1983. 07
.1984. 14
.1985. 25
.1986. 26
.1987. 17
.1988. 23
.1989. 22
.1990. 12
.1991. 20
.1992. 27
.1993. 38
---------
total 246

So that makes 87 four-eyed SSP's, and 159 aero SSP's as of today. That's about a 2:1 ratio.

smunczen 03-07-2012 07:15 PM

Nice to see a count. I really wonder how many cars on the road today.

Thanks Bill...any idea how many distinct agencies are represented in the overall number? Thanks again.

Mike, this list will quickly become outdated as new SSP's are added, but here is the current agency break-down:

Alabama . . . . . . 4
Arizona . . . . . . 2
CHP . . . . . . . .50
Colorado. . . . . . 2
Delaware. . . . . . 1
FHP . . . . . . . .35
GOV . . . . . . . . 2
GSP . . . . . . . . 3
ID. . . . . . . . . 5
KS. . . . . . . . . 2
KY. . . . . . . . . 3
LSP . . . . . . . . 4
MA. . . . . . . . . 1
MI. . . . . . . . . 1
MISC. . . . . . . .41
MN. . . . . . . . . 4
MO. . . . . . . . . 4
NC. . . . . . . . . 5
NE. . . . . . . . . 4
NM. . . . . . . . . 1
NV. . . . . . . . . 2
NY. . . . . . . . . 2
ORE . . . . . . . .10
PA. . . . . . . . . 2
PCSD. . . . . . . . 1
RCMP. . . . . . . . 1
SantaClara. . . . . 2
SC. . . . . . . . . 6
TxDPS . . . . . . .21
USPS. . . . . . . . 4
UT. . . . . . . . . 5
WA. . . . . . . . . 6
WI. . . . . . . . . 1

And then there are individual agencies with only 1 SSP listed:

Beverly Hills, CA
City of Florence
Frisco, TX
Fulton County (GA)
Pensacola, FL
Portland, OR
Rome, GA
Stem, NC
Winter Park, FL

Those cars listed under "MISC" means that the agency is not known, but these are confirmed SSP's. We still have more SSP's that are "pending", whose documentation (i.e. pictures) is weak. I can think of several more known SSP's in the hobby that have yet to be included. So if your SSP isn't listed yet, then please send me a message. :)

I have been noticing this on many of the Marti Reports. This also happens to be what is indicated, for some reason, on the Marti Reports for my 92 and 93 model year SSPs. I think many have run into the same info in the Ford 999 reports, as I have for both my SSPs.

Starting in '89 the "LX" came standard and only with the 2.3L engine and the "LX 5.0L" came standard and only with the 5.0L engine (obviously). The 5.0L engine was not optional in the "LX" any longer. Before '89 there was just the "LX" and 5.0L engine was optional.

Starting in '91 the LX 5.0L came standard with 16" tires (with 16" x 7" cast aluminum "Pony" wheels). (Those wheels/tires were also standard on the GT starting in '91). Obviously the 15" x 7" cast aluminum "10-hole" wheels were still available on SSPs but I believe there were codes and remarks on the assembly line build sheet for that. One such example is a 1992 FHP featured here:

http://specialservicemustang.net/VIN...info134871.htm

Note the tire size "215 65R" and the remark "Option M 5 P215 65VR15 Goodyear Tires."

Articulated Sport seating became standard in the "LX 5.0L" sedan starting in '92. (It became standard in the "LX 5.0L" hatchback and convertible starting in '89.)

I have seen a few '93 SSP door tags that have the A/S seating code (D) but the buck tag from the same car has the non-A/S seating code (G). I have also seen a few '93 SSP window stickers with the A/S seating listed in the standard equipment list and a line-item in the optional equipment list for "low-back rein. bucket trim set", along with a $91 credit.

Here is a 1993 CHP SSP with D6 on the door tag and G6 on the buck tag:

http://specialservicemustang.net/VIN...info111895.htm

Here is a "never-in-service" 1993 SSP with D6 (A/S seating) on the door tag, and A/S seating in the standard equipment list and non-A/S seating/credit in the optional equipment list, on the window sticker:

Bill ... Just ran accross this in some lost pictures, wasnt sure if I sent them to you already. Another 1990 TX DPS with no Bucks or door tag but I got a picture of the Vin and Title. Title reads Texas Dept of Public Safety. Car had twin spot holes, reinforcements in the floor ,antenna holes in the quarter and trunk , upper roof jam hole pass side(light bar) and signs of black and white paint. Orig. Crystal Blue inter. 5 spd

We may pull a Marti Report on this one to confirm the SSP option and learn the DSO. Thanks again for contributing! :)

03cobra 04-30-2012 05:08 PM

Thanks again Bill. I have taken so many picts over the years its hard to keep track.

28HopUp 06-05-2012 10:16 AM

We're now well over 260 confirmed SSP's in our project, which does not include all of the known 1982 VIN's - just those of which we have confirmation. Here is the latest addition to our project as provided by Chris Lott, which is the first 1986 Colorado SSP we've confirmed:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info247074.htm

We have 6 other cars to be confirmed soon. Pretty cool! :) Keep 'em coming!!! :D

Mustang Kid 06-05-2012 07:30 PM

Who bought that car? My friend tried to buy that Colorado car. Was pretty nice , original looking. He wasn't happy it was sold to someone else.

28HopUp 06-06-2012 09:48 AM

I'm not sure, Sam. Chris said he missed out on that car as well, but thankfully Chris was able to get pictures of the VIN and buck tags. Hopefully, the new owner will join up and restore that SSP. :)

ChrisL 06-07-2012 01:46 PM

No telling where it ended up. Basically got sold out from under a buddy of mine and I. It went fairly cheap, so it will probably be drag strip fodder soon :( Exactly what I was trying to prevent.

If your buddy lives in Colorado, he's the guy I was talking about lol.
Little fixing up and it would have been a real nice original car... :(

28HopUp 06-22-2012 11:42 AM

We have just added 11 more SSPs to our project, which were verified through standard Marti Reports. In some instances, we cannot be 100% certain about the ordering agency, and in those situations their pages are indicated as such.

1985 CHP
1986 Utah
1988 North Carolina
1988 Orange County
1988 South Carolina
1989 Arizona
1989 Florida
1989 Florida
1989 North Carolina
1989 DSO #83-0123
1992 DSO #83-0126

We did receive one interesting Marti Report worth mentioning separately. We pulled a report on a 1991 car with the last six digits of 141583. There is another car with the last six of 141582 that has a DSO of 13-0303. The Marti Report for 141583 also has the same DSO, but this car does NOT have the SSP option according to Marti:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...1583marti1.pdf

So either the Marti report is wrong or VIN 141583 is not a SSP. I suspect the latter is true.

Ongoing, we have Marti Reports on 7 more SSPs with pages yet to be created.
