Jim sure do like your 85 Tx DPS car. Thats my next find I hope. With lots of luck... I seem to find the SSPs just not the year I want.

Hi from Downunder
Hi there - my name is Mark and I have a collection of cars that includes a few Mustangs. I have always like the 86 model (I have a 86 GT convertible with 50,000 miles on it in Canyon Red) but wanted a 1986 Mustang SSP. I recall seeing them when I went to visit a large CHP site in Los Angeles back in 1988. I took plenty of photos and I'll try to scan them and post them up. I bought a 1986 Mustang SSP Oregon car - which I have imported to Australia. It is an all white car. Don't shoot me but I am turning it into a CHP unit - black and white. It was a car I bought out of Oregon and it had been left to sit for 10 years or so - and was probably destined for the wreckers. Anyway - we got it running and I am starting to fix it up now.

Welcome to the site, Mark.

Curious, do you have to convert it to RHD? Would be a shame to clone a CHP out of such a rare car. It's your car though... |
I had a look at your restoration. Fantastic!!! Do you know the best place to find one of the whip ariels? You have done a great job putting all those elements together and the pic of the build sheet was great too. Well done. Hmm - maybe I should keep my car as an OSP???

Mark, welcome to the forum! :)

Sometimes the whips pop up on eBay. Not sure if you can buy the exact chp kind new, but NOS can be sourced with some searching. If your car was mine, I would restore it back to OSP. My opinion though. Certainly would be different there in Australia! If you don't have to convert the dash to RHD, you could repaint it and fix it up then sell it and buy a real CHP. There are probably only 5 86 OSP cars in existence, but not totally sure on that #. Your car, your call, though. Enjoy the forum:thumbsup: |
Welcome aboard Mark. Have fun with that SSP and whichever way you choose to go with it, just do it up right. This group is a great resource!
|
Welcome Mark! Lots of information here and lots of help for the SSP person! Good luck on your restoration.
|
He doesn't have to make it RHD. I don't think they even made RHD fox body mustangs to source a dash from. If they did, I've never seen one.
|
By the way, welcome mark! Good luck on your resto!

Hi all,
My name is Jeff, I'm a 45 year old police officer in a suburb of Chicago. I've been a Fox body Mustang fan since they came out, and I've owned 2 of em, neither were SSP's though. I've been taking pics of State Police/HP cars for 25 years, and have even shot a few members cars on the board when they were in service...I also build police car models, and when finances improve a bit, I hope to get an SSP for myself...thats about it, glad to be here! Jeff |
Welcome to the forum. :welcome:
|
Welcome to the board, Jeff.
|
Welcome Jeff, I hope you good finances !
|
Jeff, welcome to the forum! Look around our gallery area to pin down the type of SSP you're after, and then keep an eye out for one that will meet your needs. And feel free to ask as many questions as needed - we're here to help. :)

What's up all everyone. My name is Jason. Have a 85 that I was gonna build. Showed up here to get some good info. But looks like you guys found one of my threads on one of my home forums. Lol.
|
Welcome Jason! :)
Yes, our members are pretty good about spreading the word when a SSP goes up for sale. Hope you and Ted can work something out... |
Thanks for the welcome. Ya I'm trying to give all the info he needs. Which isn't easy cause I don't know a whole lot about this car. Lol. I just want to see it go to a good home.

89 NHP SSP new to the world of mustang SSP
1 Attachment(s)
First off glad to be here! I have just recently received a 1989 5.0 lx notchback SSP. NHP DSO 53-0513. Nebraska highway patrol i believe,I'm am new to the world of mustangs but I am hooked. After doing my rehsearch and finding out about the SSP mustang world. I finally found a place to get away. So I have done basic searches and read many post on here before becoming a member just to help me determine weather I was SSP worthy. And after checking the door tag codes and finding the original buck tags near radiator and all the numbers matched on the car well I did back flips. No one in my family is into this kind of stuff so they had no share in excitement for me. Any way she is a 89 T5 manual Z axel code 3.08 I believe. It is white with what was blue interior but looks as tho someone tried to dye it black. Which I would prefer anyway . It has the mag light that flips down in center. Place for spot light. Also has two antennas. Has the black 10hole chrome center wheels with xxx body on tag but has black with blue stripe molding. And the dash is full of screw hole I'm sure where all the instruments went. So if you have any advise and knowledge of what peices could be missing I would like to restore this back to SSP condition and SHOW it.

Sorry for the multiple post still learning how to use site. Bare with me

Welcome and congratulations! You'll want to connect with member NHPcars.com (Mike), who also happens to be an NHP State Trooper. He will have boundless input for all the questions you might have on a Nevada Highway Patrol SSP. Check out his website too as it has tons of cool pictures of NHP cars, including SSPs. I would suggest sending him a PM (private message through this website) or reach out via his website. To send a PM through this website, click on private messages under where your user name is dispayed upper right of the webpage. Through there you send, view, etc. PM messages. Oh and by they way he's got a Facebook page setup for for that website too. Good luck in your quest and keep us posted.

Jake, welcome to the forum! :D
The Nebraska SSPs turn up on occassion, but in terms of the agency I don't think a great deal of information is known about them. Use the search function here to read all you can about Nebraska cars. If you would, please post up some pictures of your VIN label on the driver's door, and if possible a clear picture of your buck tags. If you have to, you can tape a piece of paper over them, do a rubbing, and take a picture of that. We can then add your car to our VIN Project. :) |

Am I mistaken or is dso 53 like mine Kansas?
|
Yes, DSO #53 is located in Kansas City. But that doesn't mean your SSP was a Kansas car, only that the agency that ordered it selected a dealer through that DSO (typical of government bids)
|
Sorry...just realized you have a Nebraska one, not Nevada...scratch my earlier resource suggestion.
|
That makes since. Thanks for the input
