Thank you for your hard work Bill! We all really appreciate it! I love watching these pages get put up. I'll have one for you to add soon, not my car though.

28HopUp 06-22-2012 03:43 PM

Thanks Chris. It's fun to find cars and track down their history. Here are the final ones that we confirmed most recently through Marti Reports:

1990 unknown agency
1990 South Carolina
1991 Davie, FL
1993 Nevada
1993 Canadian SSP *
1993 unknown agency
1993 unknown agency *

* - if you look on the entire 1993 VIN page, you will see that the SSP immediately next to each of these was ordered under a different DSO.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that we have 57 other VINs in our pending folder that we hope to confirm some day as SSPs. Perhaps as new cars are discovered they will also confirm these cars as SSPs.

28HopUp 06-26-2012 09:45 AM

Thank you, John10608, for providing pictures of your 1992 CHP Mustang for our project -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info175988.htm

It's worth noting that the Assignment Card shows some interesting notations under equipment. Thanks again! :)

************ ************** ************* ************* ************* *************

It's also worth noting that because of the following 1988 GSP Mustang that popped up for sale on Craigslist recently...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=4332

...we were able to confirm 225775 and 225776 as being GEORGIA cars (previously their agency usage was unconfirmed) :)

28HopUp 07-05-2012 12:15 PM

We now have FIVE more SSPs listed due to members submitting pictures and/or Marti Reports:

1985 Texas DPS 204948

1986 ????????? 198923

88 Mass St Pol 276396

'89 Georgia SP 262066

'89 Georgia SP 284831

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! Please keep 'em comin!

28HopUp 07-08-2012 08:45 AM

We are creeping up now on documenting 300 SSP's. Thanks to Bobby and Jason for providing pictures on the following cars:

1986 TxDPS 231677 (4th documented SSP in batch of 10 cars)

1990 Georgia 210336 (GSP colors listed)

PR93LXCOUPE 07-08-2012 08:50 AM

1990 SCSSP

Just wanted to contribute with some pics that i took while a friend of mine was parting out a SSP here in PR, tought they might be of some interest. The car had serious rust issues beyond repair, sad... I used a few parts like the windshield, the speedo and some minor parts. VIN# 1FACP40EXLF180395.

28HopUp 07-08-2012 09:09 AM

Melvin, thank you for the pics! It's a shame that this SSP was parted out, but you saved it through pictures. Here is the new VIN Project page for this car using your pictures -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info180395.htm

Which is similar to the following car from the same batch of cars -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info180391.htm

Thanks again! :)

28HopUp 07-10-2012 10:08 AM

I don't always post up when a new VIN page gets published, but Michael (mac88chp) recently sent in some awesome pictures for his SSP:

1988 CHP #E433035

:2thumbs:

ChrisL 07-10-2012 10:35 AM

Wow, that is a treasure trove!

28HopUp 07-30-2012 10:54 AM

Our VIN Project has now confirmed 305 cars as SSPs so far. :) Thanks guys!

NoDrama43 07-30-2012 12:42 PM

Hey Mike.....since you only paid 2k for the car I would be willing to pay you double if you want to let it go... :)

nice docs !! One of the nicest restorations out there too. :2thumbs:

EXNODRAMANOTCH 07-30-2012 08:43 PM

I struck a deal with Kevin Marti and I will soon have an exterior color match for each of the remaining (14 of 20) MN State Patrol VINs.

28HopUp 07-31-2012 09:21 AM

I have found Kevin Marti very good to deal with. Bob, in terms of the info you will be getting on those cars, it would be awesome if the Marti information also included the DSO number for those cars. Then we could confirm them as SSP Mustangs. :) Do you have any specific documentation from the State of Minnesota on these cars?

Yes, I was going to request him to confirm that the DSO on all 20 of the VINs is 58 0150. I do not have any documentation from the State of Minnesota on the cars (no records were kept, only verbal information from a couple of troopers who drove them).

Since we have confirmed the known MN cars with that DSO as SSPs, then learning the DSO number for those remaining cars would be enough to confirm them as SSPs as well. ;)

28HopUp 08-02-2012 03:13 PM

I would like to welcome kdsii (Karl) to the forum, and thank him for providing great pictures of his newly purchased 1989 Arizona SSP Mustang. Here is the ebay listing from when Karl purchased the car -

...and here is the new VIN page for his SSP -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info188111.htm

It's cool when a car turns up that provides confirmation of another SSP. We knew that 188100 was also a SSP, but were not 100% sure of its agency usage. Since both cars have the same DSO, we now know that 188100 was also used by Arizona DPS. :)

NoDrama43 08-02-2012 09:16 PM

Bill

sending you documentation (original invoices, etc. etc.) to confirm 562 more.

yesss....562 that is not a typo.

108 FHP mustangs can be confirmed years 90-93.
175 CHP mustangs can be confirmed year 1987
190 CHP mustangs can be confirmed year 1989
92 CHP mustangs can be confirmed year 1990

You will have plenty to keep you busy..... :)

Nice job, Bob! Did Kevin Marti send you something official (i.e. on letterhead) that we could use in our project? Otherwise we can grab a screenshot of your post.

:)

:)

He sent me the partial VIN list with the color code (I added the color name to match the code and copied it all to my post). The DSO verification was in my PayPal correspondence. Screenshot of post should work.

28HopUp 08-03-2012 10:43 AM

That's fine for our needs here, Bob. I went through and edited your post slightly to condense it down a bit. In a few days, the post will be stamped with the date and time, as opposed to saying "Today" or "Yesterday". Then I will grab a screenshot(s) and save it all as a single JPG file for use on the new pages for each of those cars not already documented.

Great stuff! :)

Here is a discussion from FEP about the 1985 CHP and OSP cars -

Here is the confirmation we needed on 234940 -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info234940.htm

It was the first car in that order for the Oregon State Police. Have we confirmed that all six of those remaining cars (234940 - 234945) were part of the same DSO?

The Marti Report for 234940 also confirms that 234939 was the final CHP car in the batch, which allows us to determine that 234786 was the first CHP Mustang in the batch -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info234786.htm

So technically, we now have enough documentation to include all 154 of those CHP cars from 1985 in our VIN Project! (we don't know the VIN of the single pilot car that year)

EDIT: I was on vacation all last week, so I will be playing catch up on the cars that need to be added to our VIN Project. Please be patient. :)

:)

All 154 of those 1985 CHP Mustangs are now added to our little project. Here is an example -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info234911.htm

In addition, all 20 of the 1989 Minnesota SSPs are now included in our project thanks to the work Bob did with Marti. Here is an example of the new pages added today for those MN cars not already documented -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info193392.htm

I think I will give up on trying to count the number of cars in our project now, but we are probably around 455 (+/-). With the additional documentation that Jim Young will be providing, the Marti Reports that are "in the works", and other cars that are still pending, we will be well over 1,000 documented SSPs fairly soon.

:D

Despite what I said earlier :p I had some time to kill recently and decided to see if I could quantify how many SSPs our VIN Project may be able to identify using our current count of documented cars. Knowing that SSPs were generally produced in batches, I figured that we could add up all of the batches with known SSPs to come up with an estimate for how many SSPs may be grouped together using the information in our VIN Project.

It is important to note that there are three critical flaws with this logic:
  1. We know that civilian V8 coupes were sometimes thrown into the mix of known SSP batches. So far, we have seen this occur prior to or just after Ford ran a batch of specific DSO cars. So it is reasonable to believe that there are an unknown quantity of civilian cars as part of the consecutive unit number (called "CUN") batches containing SSPs.
  2. Our Project only lists CUN batches for 3 or more cars. We know that Ford also produced SSP Mustangs in singles or pairs, but it is uncertain how many SSPs were produced in single/double groups. Only known singles or doubles are included in the estimate.
  3. There are surely CUN batches that we have not identified yet as containing SSP Mustangs, so obviously those batches cannot be included in the estimate at this time.

So using this flawed estimate, by adding up all of the CUN batches we can account for roughly 8,350 SSP Mustangs so far. :) Despite the flaws, this estimate provides a quick glimpse into how many cars our VIN Project may be able to document. This number will only increase as more SSP Mustangs turn up.

FoxChassis 08-18-2012 12:06 PM

Would you like ALL of the 5.0L coupe VINs? I can get you the singles and doubles. :D

FoxChassis 08-19-2012 04:53 PM

OK, how about starting small, i.e. the second VIN to go along with the some of the singles you already have documentation for...

Code:

1984
1FABP26M2EF213715
1FABP26M4EF213716 (already in VIN Project)

1FABP26M1EF227282 (already in VIN Project)
1FABP26M3EF227283

1989
1FABP40E5KF279474 (already in VIN Project)
1FABP40E7KF279475

1FABP40E4KF282799
1FABP40E7KF282800 (already in VIN Project)

1990
1FACP40E5LF141696 (already in VIN Project)
1FACP40E7LF141697

1991
1FACP40E6MF151123
1FACP40E8MF151124 (already in VIN Project)

1FACP40E5MF175252
1FACP40E7MF175253 (already in VIN Project)

The rest of the singles are in fact singles.

28HopUp 08-19-2012 09:58 PM

Thanks Mick! I will get those added tomorrow.

You're welcome, Bill! If you come across more that aren't in the VIN Project list already, run them by me and I can tell you if they're singles or doubles, and give you the second VIN if they're doubles.

Will do!

I would like to thank Bobby/kapracing for sending in photos of our project's 10th South Carolina SSP -

It is also interesting to note that this SSP is from the same 78-car Consecutive Unit Number batch as the New Mexico SSP that CNTLOSE recently purchased -

Your welcome :-)

It would be interesting also to know if the second cars were optioned the same as the first. Color trans etc...

28HopUp 08-20-2012 11:03 AM

Bobby, a Marti Report would tell us that. The batch of 1990 SC cars with the earlier VINs (like this one) are obviously from a different DSO. It is interesting that VINs for the higher DSO number (22-0142) were produced ahead of the car(s) with lower DSO number (22-0078).

28HopUp 08-20-2012 12:04 PM

With Google's help...

I used Google over the weekend to find some pictures for our project. We just added the following 1986 Oregon SSP:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info208296.htm

...which has the same DSO as another car in our project that we suspected as being an Oregon SSP, but we were not 100% sure of the agency because of the pictures we had:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info208299.htm

So the newly found SSP confirms the agency for one we already had in the Project. :)

MOstang 08-20-2012 05:51 PM

good detective work.
