Slowly but Surely...
2 Attachment(s)
Visited 0327 in the shop today. The rear end is all put together (pic 1). Driver's door is assembled and in place (pic 2). Next will be passenger door, fenders, then hood, then front end.
The reason it's taken so long is my friend takes everything apart, cleans, removes rust/reconditions every part, then reassembles. Hardware and metal fasteners get tumbled to clean them. He took the doors completely apart; windows out, all mechanical components. Cleaned inside and out, then painted both sides. Removed all rust and cleaned the parts. Reassembled with new rubber and greased the moving parts. It's like new. A lot of details I'm not sure I would have done myself, but that door in place operates like new. Perfectly aligned, closes solidly, etc. I'm getting the interior shop down the street all lined up and ready. He says with all materials and components he can knock that out in 2 days. We'll see... |
That's the way to do it, looks great! Viva la Fox!!
|
Doing it right like that makes a huge difference in the long run Steve and is worth the effort/dollars now. No hidden problems that can come back to haunt you years later that may be very hard to repair once the car is all put back together. Wow, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks for the update; 'looking great!

It is looking great!

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement. Mike, I am really hoping to have it ready for the Ripon EV show in October. I hope you will be there this year.

0327 Update
Passenger door is reassembled and installed. My buddy painted it twice because he didn't like the way it came out the first time. I just sent him more money and told him I want to pick up the pace, as I want to have 0327 ready for the Ripon EV Show in October of this year.
I also told him to repaint the "hockey sticks", the trim on the rear quarter panels that cover the paint break between the black quarters and the white pillars. He had painted them white and said they look good in white and that Ford would have painted them that way. CHP1982 (Jon) told me they must be satin black to be correct and I looked through some photos, including 0255, and they indeed were. I told my friend I don't care what Ford would have done, satin black it shall be! This next week I will be visiting 0327 and hope to have more updated photos. |

Everything is done now except for fenders (next week) and front bumper cover/grill. Pics are below; I had my pal Dahui Zonggao post them in the Facebook SSPMustang.net group for me so our FB friends would see them too.

Nice Work Steve:)

You must be very excited.

On The Home Stretch
5 Attachment(s)
I visited 0327 yesterday. The fenders are on; the last thing is the front bumper cover/grill and the side moldings. Put 5 gallons of gas in the tank, started it. Then I went over to the interior shop. They've made a new package tray and are now ordering the headliner and carpet. They're ready to go.
In the next two weeks I'll bring the roof antenna and wiring to install plus the CC1 to Siren amp cabling for install under the carpet. Attached are pics; the shop is small and lighting poor so it's hard to get good pics. And it is dusty; we keep it covered with a tarp but the dust shows on the hood. As soon as I can get it outside I'll take a complete set. Still need a correct shotgun rack. |
Looks very nice!

Body & Paint 99%
2 Attachment(s)
It's been a long almost two years, but 0327's body and paint are complete with the exception of the side moldings. They'll go on in a day or two, then 0327 will be going into the interior shop, hopefully Friday 7/26.
It should be ready for the Ripon EV show in October. |
A long time coming but worth the wait! What a transformation!
|
Doing it the right way takes lots of time, money, patience, money and more patience. Thanks for doing it right Steve. It’s going to be well worth all the effort.
|
Thanks for the encouragement and kind words everyone. It is a challenging endeavor. I wonder how many 82s are still out there and will be restored. It's gotta be getting really difficult to find parts now.
I'll take some good outdoor pics of 0327 as it leaves the body shop. |
Thank You Steve.
You are keeping history alive. good Job!:) |
Well it's official, 0327 comes out of the body shop this Friday, completed, and I will take it directly to the interior shop.
I'll wipe off the dust and get some good outside pics. |
0327 Body and Paint Done Pics
5 Attachment(s)
Today I drove 0327 to the interior shop. Body and Paint are complete. The interior guy says a week; maybe he means one week of labor. Because inevitably he'll need some plastic interior part that will be hard to get, so I have no illusions it will be a calendar week.
Pics below. |

Taking the time to do it right shows in the end result!
Bet you can't wait to get behind the wheel when it's completed. Best wishes Bruce |
0327 Interior Update
3 Attachment(s)
0327's interior is nearing completion. The dash is back together, carpet in, door panels rebuilt and installed. Chrome strip needs to go on door panels. Headliner goes in next. Getting there!

That is looking very nice.

That looks so good!

0327 So Close
Getting sooo close to being done. A few minor details in the interior are left. But then we took a step backward. The dash pad was dyed the right color, but during installation, the part above the left speaker broke out. This is the portion with the holes to let the sound through. Old and very fragile. So I ordered a new repro dash pad from CJ Pony Parts; it gets in next Monday, then that will have to be dyed and installed.
Sometimes it seems like you take two steps forward, then one back. This delay is really going to make it difficult to get it ready for the Ripon show in October. Even if it isn't finished I think I'll bring it anyway. I do need a set of the trunk lid decals. I've messaged John10608 as I recall he had some a year ago. So close, but not quite there, after 3 years and a lot of $! Kind of like waiting for a date...you've been looking forward to it and now you're there waiting but she's got to finish her makeup, or change dresses, or is looking for a certain pair of shoes she wants to wear, etc... lol |
Quite a road you’ve taken...it will all be worth it, in the end 🎉.

0327 Update
3 Attachment(s)
0327 has finally come home, about 2 1/2 years after it made the ~150 mile journey to the body shop. I posted one of these pics elsewhere, but since this is the 0327 thread thought it should have pics for completeness.
It came back one week before the Ripon EV show, and there was just too much left to do to get it ready for that show, so the next target is the Morro Bay show in April 2020. What remains for 0327 is trunk lid decals, then the electrical eqpt reinstall (CC1, MAP2, scanner, radios, etc.). I also need to rebuild the shotgun rack with the new lock from Santa Cruz gunlocks. The rainy season will start here soon, typically after Halloween. Good indoor work, getting 0327 finished. |
Car Looks GREAT thanks for the Pictures
You and your crew did an excellent job :) |
0327 Decals now complete
1 Attachment(s)
I didn't like the trunk decal I had, so I got a set from John10608 and applied them myself. Pretty easy to do. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show how to apply decals; a spray bottle with water and a few drops of dishwashing soap, a round-edge piece of plastic to smooth out bubbles and excess water, and a clean soft rag to wipe off water are all you need. The soap water underneath gives you plenty of time to get the decals where you want. Here is the result; 0327 in my shop.

Whoah! Looking good, Steve!

Nice! Thanks for the update.

0327 couldn’t have gone to a better home!

Thank you all for the encouragement!

Greetings everyone! I have been getting 0327 ready this week to drive to the Ripon EV show a week from this next Saturday. This annual show is a joint effort by Ripon PD and Menlo Park, CA PD.
I am looking forward to seeing some of my local friends there and hope to see some SSPs there to keep 0327 company. |
