Only things I have done so far is a five lug disc brake kit and primer the roof. There is a video out on youtube when it did have a vinyl top.

Welcome to the forum, Jason. Does your SSP have its own page in our VIN Project yet?

http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/VIN.html

FoxChassis 03-02-2016 02:49 PM

Is it this one?...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=5098

Last year for "factory" vinyl roof was 1982. Of course anybody can put a vinyl roof on anything they want but it wasn't "factory" in 1990.

Bill: I just noticed LF144541's VIN Project page has the last digit in the VIN wrong. Should be 1 instead of 8.

MileHighTrooper 03-03-2016 08:55 AM

Yes that is the mustang from the Sioux Falls post, I bought it here in Denver from a different guy named Jason. The car is on the Vin Project. Vin is 144541

Thanks Mick. Given how much "operator input" is involved with the Project, I'm surprised there aren't more typos. :) Here is the updated page for this CSP -

Hello guys and gals, I've got a couple pictures that I want to share. I just bought this 87 lx and I think I scored big seeing as I only paid 1500 for it. Runs like a top and the body is in really good shape, except the previous owner painted it with some house paint or something lol.

28HopUp 05-20-2016 07:56 AM

Welcome to the site! That's a nice buy on your SSP Mustang. Congrats. We'll get it added to our VIN Project shortly.

New to the site but have owned a 1987 SSP Texas DPS mustang since 1998. I also bought a 1993 SSP P-71 Crown Vic Police car. Still have the Texas DPS Mustang number 184614 with DSO 57 ( Houston delivery ). Used it as a daily driver but now in the process of restoring it back to Black and White. I need a stack mount bracket for the light bar and siren control boxes. This car appears to have been a slick top as I see no hole drilled into the B post on the driver side like the ones that were equipped with the Code 3 LP 6000 light bar. I need a few things like a period correct DPS radio, really doesn't have to work and the antenna for the radio. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and would like to see other 1987 Texas DPS Mustangs so I can see how the bracket mounts to the dash. Thanks for the nice web site.

Ran into this forum while doing some searching for another mustang guy.
Retired from LE 15 years ago. Never had a Mustang assigned to me, but drove them many times. My main reason for reading the various boards is looking at the restorations, and helping with the radios. Radios are my hobby, and have WAY too many so have been selling some, giving some away, and throwing some in the trash.

ImEvil1 05-08-2018 04:44 PM

Welcome to the site.....looking forward to seeing some of those radios.

Welcome...dont throw any away. I too have a truckload of radio stuff from the 50’s on up. I am donating most of it to a local police car restoration group in northern Ohio. They need old radios for their projects.

petercasper1969 01-29-2021 05:32 AM

getting started on my 87 restoration/recreation

Looking for the following.
-1987 manual seats and tracks. want to replace power seats and tracks with manual. (any info on if this is possible and how to do it would be great) also not opposed to paying someone if they are fair and honest...not worried about timely as long as they can keep me updated once every few days if it takes that long which sometimes is the case. I am located in northern CA SF Bay Area)
--also looking for 1987 CHP SSP original grey cloth (or vinyl if that was an option) seats or at least the material as my seats are in good shape but the original cloth material on them now is worn. I am not opposed to the charcoal gray tweed or any other tasteful seats as I may not go 100 percent original on my restoration/recreation.
-- need grey carpet, headliner. both front and back seat upholstery, rear package tray and the factory style trunk carpet or surface cover material .
------need drivers and passenger stock kick panels
---fuse box cover
--factory shift knob.

--also looking for the bracket that held the chp radio and shotgun. I believe that it mounted to the dash and the floor on the passenger side somewhere.
--replica or non working chp radio
--rear outward facing light bar that was mounted on the rear package tray for oncoming traffic to see
--outward facing upper windshield mounted lights (if 87 chp ssp had them that would be good to know)
--factory radio and or delete panel
--great to have the various bumper stickers like "get it together" "dont drink and drive" D.A.R.E" or any of the other bumper stickers some units had on them.

Please email me directly at petercasper1969@gmail.com with any leads, items, comments or anything else you deem helpful. I may go days without checking fb and I do not know how to make my cellular phone ping when I get a fb message. If any one of you are in the business of finding and or installing any of this please.. I would love to make your acquaintance quick fast and in a hurry, or if you know of a good shop or person who can do these items...i would love to know about it.

New to the forum (thanks Wilcox & Mike) and joined the FB page a few days ago. My first foray into FB...the only reason I joined!

Sometime around 1988 or so, my dad and I wound up winning the closed bit auction for an '85 SSP from the CHP's South Los Angeles Motor Transport location. It was silver and super clean. My dad had a cassette (!) radio installed and drove it to work every day. After a few months, it developed a host of issues: leaking water pump, noisy timing chain, cracked transmission case, bad input shaft bearing. We were quite disappointed. My dad returned to the CHP to complain. They told him the car was sold as-is, but did he transfer the warranty? Huh? Warranty? Apparently, Ford then (and still does) warranty the powertrains on police vehicles for 100,000 miles (when my assigned 2017 Utility PI puked it's engine at 102k miles, Ford stepped up). After a $50 warranty transfer fee, Ford repaired everything (to include a new clutch, rear main seal, radiator...what a deal!

We drove that car, originally assigned to Needles, all over the place. My dad sold it for practically nothing. Oh, how I wish I knew how special it was then!

I've gone through a ton of vehicle phases, to include a long stint in the Toyota 4x4 world and a BMW motorcycle obsession. But now, I'm am casually looking for a running SSP. I'm not picky. Prefer an aero vintage but I'll consider older. Bonus if it's a former WSP car!

I've literally gone to the end of the Internet reading up on the SSP pedigree. I've learned a lot and really appreciate the work the enthusiast here have put into this hobby. Looking forward to getting to know the community here.

28HopUp 01-12-2025 11:01 PM

Thanks for joining here. Any chance you can find the VIN for that 85 CHP? Regardless, good luck on your search. Feel free to ask questions.

Bill (Wilcox)

brinkjm 01-13-2025 09:31 PM

Hey Bill. My dad says that he doesn't have a scrap of documentation left from the car. I think he sold it in 1992 and bought a T-Bird Super Coupe. I wonder if the CHP Fleet Ops in Torrance maintains records of sales or has an archive?

I'd love to find that car again...
